European squad

Aye we were linked with him thru most of August but they wouldn't let him go bcoz they were playing qualifiers.

Pretty sure he scored a couple of goals during the run. I remember 1 cracker he scored were he done couple of keepie ups and vollied 1 in at the back post

 

It’s obvious that the club refused to address key areas in the summer, but that squad looks rank rotten when you see it in black and white.

Couple of injuries and suspensions literally anywhere on the park and we are in huge trouble.

 

It's not about whether Holm/Iwata or Bernabei is better, it's about cover at LB/RB. If Taylor gets injured, you're having to move someone else from out of position into LB, which obviously in the CL is far from ideal. We just don't need so many midfielders when we've got one LB and 2 RBs only.

Given that we could have easily dropped Holm for Bernabei, I can only assume that the manager isn't pleased with the LB situation and wants to draw attention to our deficits there. I can't see why else you would do this.

 

You're right about how it looks. I hoping that part of that is the unknown of some of the players we haven't seen much of yet. If Lagerbielke, Phillips, Bernardo, Yang, Holm and Palma show good performances then we'll feel a bit different about things. Big if that all of them are successes though

 

No point having Bernabei as cover, when Rodgers has obviously no intention in playing him there.. as stated there are lots of other options, that aren't ideal, but still better than Bernabei..

No chance Holm drops out for anyone, he looks like he has a bit of everything and will play his part domestically and the CL, hopefully starting on Sat..

 

Have we seen these other players play LB? To me it's a massive risk assuming that one of them can step up and be adequately replaced in their own position. Bernabei must be absolutely honking if this is plan A, like just diabolical.

 

There's no chance at all that we just weren't arsed about bringing in a left back during the window. Galling that we didn't get one in, looking at that squad list and seeing Taylor by himself is soul destroying.

If anyone thinks we didn't do our damndest to do some business in that area then you need a reality check. My guess is Merlin was the one we were pushing for and he's kaiboshed it at the 11th hour. * *.

 

Aye, we've seen Taylor, Scales, Hatate and Frame at LB.. as said on other threads we could also try something like... Rodgers had used 3 at the back with us and Leicester..

Scales and Hatate have played at LB, and yes it's obvious to anyone watching our games that Bernabei is absolutely honking.

 

I've seen Scales at LB, is he an upgrade there over Bernabei? I wouldn't automatically assume that's the case. And ideally if Hatate's playing, he's in centre midfield, obviously you want him nowhere near LB if you can help it.

I'm willing to be wrong but I don't think it's inconceivable that in a couple months time we'll be asking again why we took one LB. It's a gamble.

 

Genuinely can't comprehend how for all the players we've signed we failed to have a legitimate alternative to our current weakest guaranteed starter. Still * me off we just didnt go and get hickey those few years ago.

He is absolutely honking. That's why he's not in the squad

 

I don't reckon he's much worse than Taylor as a full-back. He'll get game time in the league 100% so we've got to hope he isn't as bad as that.

 

Why will he 100% get game time in the league? He's been here a year and barely had a sniff, what makes you think that's going change? Taylor has had a poor start to the season but he's still miles ahead him. If he wasn't that bad he'd be in the squad.

 

I wonder who will replace abada in the squad, is it still possible to swap one player out?

Because we have 1 LB other than him and we play twice a week. He will 100% get game time, like he he had 17 appearances for us last year alone. I'll go even further, he'll get starts in the league, unquestionably.
