Not Actually that Crucial a Summer as of August 2023...beginning to now think everything isnt fine!

The injuries are really excarebating the situation we find ourselves in. Couple that with Rodgers back and Lawwell hanging about like a bad smell is spooking everyone

If Ange had bought these players this season I don't think the rage would be anywhere close to where it is now.

 

Mate, I’ve been saying this for weeks on here. 32 players we have on our books and you could have gotten rid of 13 of them and you’d never notice.

Most of them are potential projects from previous years who have failed. I don’t want to make it about money but every single one of them, bar Ajeti and Bernabei, were cheaper punts, costing between £0-£2.5m.

Again, this is not me saying ‘don’t sign more projects’… it’s me saying get rid of your failed projects first before you start to bloat the squad with even more potential projects.

We’ve signed players that don’t even suit Rodgers style in my opinion. Absolutely no pace in that midfield and Bernardo and Holm don’t have any either.

 

If Ange had failed to address the left back position and the goalkeeper position, I’d be saying the exact same thing I’m saying now.

I can tell you right now, Ange would have signed both.

 

Don't think Holm lacks pace..

 

What I mean is, he’s not going to pick up the ball and drive forward like McGregor or Armstrong did under Rodgers previously.

Neither of them were blessed with huge amounts of pace, they were a different sort of midfielder to what Holm is. Holm doesn’t want to pick the ball up and drive forward, he wants to be at the base of midfield, controlling the tempo of the game.

 

I agree with this although losing Jota can't be underestimated and don't forget there was serious talk that Ange was getting serious backing this summer. There would still have been criticism but we would have trusted in Ange because he is a top manager.

 

And left back. And goal keeper.

Should really be looking for three more after Bernardo.

 

Bernardo isn’t that sort of player either. Looks very much like a Rogic/O’Riley type on the ball. Rogic used to be able to drive forward but his speed always meant the attack could fizzle out. Luckily, he had that bit of class to do something with it. Bernardo might be the same but I think you’re still going to have the same problems in midfield with zero pace. Turnbull, O’Riley, 30 year old McGregor, Bernardo, Holm… you have literally no quick press from any midfield 3 we choose.

Think it’s why so many of us wanted to see Hacksabanovic come into midfield. He wasn’t quick for a winger but he was far quicker than anything we had in midfield.

 

I actually can't believe we aren't signing a left back. Goalkeeper too. Mental.

 

We are signing someone, right? This is is getting ridiculous now.

 

Last bit of hope I have is the rags haven't came out and said we're done for the night.

They've done it before in the past, usually let us down early, the fact they haven't been briefed by the club yet tells me we are trying something in the background at least.

At this stage, if it's a loan LB from the EPL, then * it, I'd take it, even without the option to buy.

It would be kicking the can down the road for a year, but that's better than the very real chance of Bernabei starting games for us.

 

LB wasn't as much of a priority if we were playing Ange's inverted full backs, Taylor was dependable there.

But since Rodgers has altered the style to a more typical full back role, neither he or Bernabei can do it well.

I don't know if it's on Rodgers or the board but not signing a LB given what we've seen over the last month is insane.

 

Admittedly we haven't seen a lot of him yet but I remember from his highlights reel there was a lot of footage of him driving forward.

 

No chance we'll get what we need now, is there? I honestly thought we would. I'm quite surprised by this.

 

At this point I'd bite your hand off for a LB and GK on loan.

 

Surprised? Nah.

Expectedly scunnered is how I'm feeling just now.

 

I don't think Rodgers should have to change his system to suit our players; but if the window shuts and Greg Taylor and Joe Hart are still first choices, then we have to change our system to deal with that. It's folly to demand that they play a way they aren't capable of. If that means back to aspects of Ange's system until Christmas, then that's what it means.

Rodgers has been shafted here, hasn't he?
