Not Actually that Crucial a Summer as of August 2023...beginning to now think everything isnt fine!

I get what you're saying mate but at that time we were needing a good 10+ players in that window as our squad was a mess the previous season. Lots of first teamers leaving and loans ending. We could only afford £2-4m on average per signing such was the number needed.

This window isn't the same. We didn't need to pad out the squad with £2m punts. We were in a position to push the boat out on a few quality signings to improve the first XI. A few in the £6m+ bracket (as we did with CCV, Jota, Kyogo) to give us a better chance of NOT getting shagged in the CL.

The players may well turn out to be better than what we have but by shopping in the leagues we have at the budget we have shows a cautiousness and lack of ambition to a lot of us.

 

But everyone on here was * on the J league when Ange come in, now it's the benchmark.

Speaking for myself, it was the initial excitement when Brendan came in. It looked like we were ready to take that step forward. Something we would of done under Ange and something the board seemed set on doing by making a high profile appointment.

Nobody expected us to break out transfer record, apart from a few dopes no doubt. But we needed statements of intent and we haven’t even had that.

Juranovic was a wanted man and he was Croatias starting RB. Thats a statement for us. We’ve not even had something like that.

Kyogo was a good age, had high praise from Ange and Iniesta. I think he was more of a known quantity to people in the know, despite us not knowing who he was.

I think people are really underestimating Yang and Nawrocki, for me the quality is obviously there. They could all come good and make us loads of profit, but I think there’s just more doubt with them than with previous players and that’s based off a number of factors, most of them in our own heads.

Bottom line is this. If the club don't go out and sign big players early doors in every transfer window, people are goanny be determined to * all over the club.

Even after summer 2021 when we were all raging about the state of the squad, gave up on the league before it even started, slated the club, the board, the scouting and whatever else...Still people refuse to learn their lesson about not assuming the absolute worst all the time.

I was the same for many a year, not trusting the club to do things right, spouting * like 'they only care about the balance sheet' and all that. But really, the people at the club are far more clued up on how things work than and of us dafties will ever be, so am far more willing to think...you know what, we ain't always goanny get it right, but they are committed to trying to improve the club, and they will even if sometimes things go against us.

 

I wouldn't underestimate the Rodgers effect either

If Ange was bringing these players in I think the mood would be much more upbeat.

So, what’s going to happen when the Asia Cup’s on? Kyogo, Oh and Maeda’s our striker options.

We can delay the games because of how many players we’ll have away I think, think it’s 3 or more players called up we can do that.

But then it’s catch up, and when do the games get played? Left ourselves in a * of a position either option.

It was the J league though. Jury was still out on Ange at the time and we replaced our 9m quid striker with a guy from the J league a league that was getting shat on from a great height at the time.
I honestly don't see the difference.

We saw Kyogo and within a few weeks we knew he was the real deal. An outstanding talent. That bought Ange good will in regards transfers from the J-League.

 

Was thinking this. Seems strange that we got knocked back for the Danish lad and haven't moved for anyone else.

So we're basically relying on one of that 3 not being called up, a youth player stepping up, playing Abada or Palma as a striker or sign someone in Jan to start games immediately.
