Apart from Madrid we can’t really be complaining about the disparity in spending power/wages for this group.

I do not want to see the coaching staff use these excuses because it’s not valid outwith Madrid.

The Dutch league is significantly stronger than the Scottish league (just look at how our clubs have done again this year!). The Italian league is in a different, er league entirely. This makes it easier for them to attract players.

    It's not all about money.

Carresco and Felix away from Atletico. Just need Greizmann, Depay, Savic injured then we might have a chance lol.

    It's quite interesting isn't it?

On the face of it, with a higher wage budget we should be able to get a better team together than Feyenoord. At the end of the day, if we both target the same players we should be able to offer a better package, and it's not like our club isn't a gateway to even more riches, as we all know.

To an extent, the league almost certainly plays a part.

I would say the fundamental difference is probably the amount of talent these clubs don't need to pay huge transfer fees for. Our best Scottish players (Forrest, McGregor, Christie, Armstrong) were all relatively cheap for us or free but for any other team to have them would've cost millions. Feyenoord probably save huge amounts of money in the same way on their local talent, allowing them to maintain a better team with much lower wages.

I wouldn't even say the players they have are any better. They just consistently play against better opponents so develop faster. Thats the downside to our league. We can only develop so much with such a * level of competition.

We have a realistic chance of getting out this Group, could not have got a much better Group.

We would have if the board did their job and brought in quality players we needed a goalkeeper and left back and still not sorted with hours to go in the window.
The amount of money the club has brought in I expected 6 quality players in the £5 million plus bracket and give us a chance for a longer run in Europe but again the board show zero ambition.

I know what you mean, i like countless others are totally * off with the Summer Transfer effort, but that said looking at this Group if we have a real go surely at the very least we can start racking up points at home again. Oh and yes .uck our Board.

I want to look at our expectations here:

Some people think we have a good chance of getting out of this group. I don't know what that confidence is based on.

The team that finished second in the Netherlands just spanked the team that finished second in Scotland. Feyenoord finished first. Lazio finished second in the 3rd best league in the world, ahead of CL finalists Inter and semi-finalists AC Milan. Atletico had a bad year last year but in the last decade they have failed to make it out of the groups just twice and have contested 2 CL finals, a SF and 3 QF's. In the same period, we have failed to exit the groups, finishing 3rd once and dead last 3 times (including under St Ange).

Equally, I'm not saying 3rd is impossible (it isn't) and I'm not denying that this is a kinder draw than most and gives us a chance; but we're going to need to be at our best and to be far more clinical than last year and even then, we'll need some luck.

Going to be a humiliation. Taylor gets rinsed weekly by guys in Scotland, imagine the joy teams in the CL are going to have against him. Midfield will be non-existant as well.

Just as well we avoided teams like Man City and Bayern Munich.

I would rather have had Atletico first and last, I think Feyenoord are who we will be fighting with for 3rd and would have preferred a dead rubber for our opponents in last game.

Dunno mate! That's probably a massive match for us, and will come when we've had most time to gel, learn systems and hopefully get everyone we have available back to best fitness... There's pro's and con's to all schedules
