Not Actually that Crucial a Summer as of August 2023...beginning to now think everything isnt fine!

There's a complete misunderstanding about what a 'project' or 'punt' means on this forum. I even seen someone say all players are 'punts' because we don't know how well they'll actually do.

A projects (or a punt as another name), in my view, is a player that comes in with less expectation they'll go in and establish themselves in the first team, dominate big games etc.

The keyword here is expectation. It's not to say they definitely won't do the above (and vice versa).

Now there is obviously some level of opinion on each player and each supporter will make up their own mind about what is a punt and what isn't, outside of the cases were the manager explicitly says it.

It is not a prerequisite you 'know' the player before they sign so you can make up your opinion. That is totally false when people say that. You can look at the circumstances, the highlights, the stats, the form etc. and make up your mind.

I would go as far as to say it's extremely obvious which players are punts and which aren't. Some are much more difficult.

The takeaway here is that by any measure of each individual player, it's clear to me we've taken far too many 'punts' in a window were we should've focused our time and resources on less-risky quality that improves the team.

 

I'm sure he said the same first time round, then * off mid-season after having a hissy fit about us signing Shved.

Look, there's a fog-of-war when it comes to managers' opinions on things. There's a lot of speculation, rumours and reading between the lines. If people want to sit here and say Rodgers doesn't want at least one or two higher quality signings then that's up to them. My view is he's saying as clearly as a professional can that he wants better players brought in.

 

Ange had that famous statement where he blamed himself for obviously not doing a good enough job of convincing those above him in the need for speedy signings. Rodgers is very subdued compared to his first stint.

 

What we thinking then that our transfer business done when Paolo gets announced? Massive let down for me, heard for last 10 days we wanted 5 in & got 3! Very weak at Left Back & Striker for me! Window has been a shambles and our starting 11 is much weaker but £60m plus in bank!

 

Those were linked throughout the window though. CCV interest was known from the beginning and we'd been chasing Giakoumakis for weeks. I'm sure we knew Jota was on the way too (similar to how the Bernardo link has materialised).

There's not even been a concrete link to a GK or LB. These are the two positions every fan wanted improvements on 4 months ago. Some of us have wanted their replacements since last Summer, ffs.

A small part of me thinks we'll get one in but I think that's out of sheer desperation more than any faith or hope.

 

Refusing to accept it's done with him but probably is.

 

We are basically scared to pay 5m or more without it being a LTB. Maybe fingers still burning from Ajeti.

 

The only surprise on deadline day was CCV, Jota and GG had been all but unveiled a couple of days before, they were similar to Palma and Philips type timelines.

I think we will be trying to get another couple in but who they are and how good the are is anyone’s guess at this point.

 

People are. There’s plenty of posts suggesting they aren’t good enough.

That’s also not what Rodgers is saying. He’s hardly going to talk negatively about the signings we’ve made.

 

The last proper surprise I remember was Frimpong and we had no idea how good he’d be.

 

I know CCV was signed basically within the last hour of the window, but if we've not heard anything in the next few hours I suspect that'll be it.

It's clear that the club thought Hart and Taylor were good enough for this system, and now that it's clear they aren't, they've been scrambling about the last week with no real plan.

Taylor AND Hart until January is depressing, teams will continually target Taylor and Hart is prone to errors. The huns are in just as bad a state, which makes our business even more infuriating.

Please sign a LB Celtic, even on loan or a free agent if need be.

Ange was publicly criticising the board. Dom McKay in particular if I remember correctly.

He's more subdued for the moment than he was when he publicly outed the board for signing Shved for millions of pounds without consulting him.

But he's less subdued than at the start of the first spell, to my memory.

Either way, he's quite clearly and obviously saying he wants more quality in my opinion.

 

Aren't good enough in the context that we all needed / expected / wanted really top quality signings this window. Just like Rodgers said, we need more quality in.

We've got a couple of good players, a couple of promising players. Great - but it's not good enough in the context of this window.

We all, to a man, wanted a big summer after record profits so we can finally make an impact in Europe. It's not materialised and we instead hope for some last minute deals and some players really kick on a surprise us.

 

I think Nawrocki has looked better than Lagerbielke to be honest. I still wouldn’t say with any certainty either are better than Starfelt though as it’s too soon for that. The negativity has come about because all the talk was around bringing in players that will take us to the next level in Europe. So I think it’s fair to assume that we were going to spend a decent amount on a few players. The Jota/CCV fee bracket. We haven’t done that, and we still haven’t addressed the left back and goalkeeping positions. The cup exit and draw last week hasn’t helped the mood.

 

Think we'll get a lb in but it will be somebody very underwhelming.

For me personally on the deadline we've always been led to believe that after a player has signed that'd be that, but always hoped for more.

For the last week now though, the media especially have been under the impression we are still actively trying to get a certain amount of players in before the deadline.

Even this morning they were saying we still want TWO more after Bernardo.

Not saying we will, but I would think the club have been releasing snippets to the media about what they need. But are trying to keep potential targets out the media as long as possible.

 

Get him on the tanning bed, a sleeve, teeth whitened and wet look gel and they can fool us all no bother!

 

There just no interested in Europe mate * frustrating especially the money we have took in .
