It's some position Nicholson has lucked into here, if things are going well he's getting praised to high heaven for doing such a good job, but anything negative appears on the horizon the most vocal fans just flip their lid and go * LAWWELLLLLLL, he must be loving it.

If it was Nicholson alone deciding what transfers we go for, I'd wager we'd not be looking for a GK and LB, still.

His title is irrelevant. He was ceo and acted as director of football despite having absolutely * all knowledge.

He micro manges everything, right down to him forcing John Kennedy on 4 different mangers.

Whatever his job title is he is the 1 running the club and thats never going to be a good thing.

He should never have been allowed back and it's on the fans for allowing it to happen in January just bcoz everything was going well as the time.

Got to agree. If anyone thinks PL isn't back running things they havnt been paying attention for the last decade. This window smacks of him. Same transfer policy as 10, 15 years ago. Pathetic.

I used to think people were paranoid about him still running things but someone needs to convince me otherwise now. Don't care what title he has..

I'd imagine most people think we've handled it badly on a HUMAN level, but very much doubt any intelligent ops think we've done anything wrong in a LEGAL footing. The very thing we all want; the club to help the victims, is IMPOSSIBLE legally without the club accepting liability and writing an absolute * TON of cheques... If the obstacles of the legality are ever fully removed I'd imagine we'd see movement on the other very quickly. Alternatively, we'll lose the case and a blitz of cases will come and we'll get savaged financially, but at least close the whole filthy episode.

I think at best Lawwell casts a heavy shadow over the running of the club and at worst he’s still actively involved more than he should be.

He shouldn’t have been brought back as Chairman.

I don’t know how people can so confidently assert he has nothing to do with the running of the club.

Ange tried to take Kennedy with him, and Rodgers went to bat to keep him here... Hardly sounds like he's being 'foisted' on anybody to me... Just because we don't know the details of what/how he does things doesn't mean he's doing nothing, or something badly

None of us can say with any certainty how much influence lawwell has on transfer side of things. What we do know though is this season has been more typical of how we have traded over the last 20 years and that Lawwell is back in the building. For me it is to coincidental.

Like the rest of us, I do not want to be reckless with out transfer policy but I heavily suspect we have massive roomvto push the budget harder and I just want to see the best possible Celtic every week. Feels like we haven't been anywhere near our full potential now for quite some time. I love how successful we have been domestically but we shouldn't be doing enough to win the league, we should aim to be getting better year on year. Feels like we forever repeating this process of building a very good team that only needs a few finishing touches to go up a few levels, only to sell three/four quality players and take 2 seasons to replace them, by which point another area of the field then needs attention.

It always baffles me that we sell a

KT for £25M then spend £2M on Taylor.
Jota £25M and then spend £2/3M on Yang.

    Just doesn't make sense.

Compare that to selling Eduardo for £14M and then signing kyogo for £5M. Not even half the amount but I think we can all agree that is good sound business. Whenever we sell a player atleast of third of the profit should be reinvested, if that is what's required.

With selling Jota I believe we banked profit was around £20M. Surely if that Tete was good enough then give him a £5M signing on bonus to sweeten the deal and we got a player on our hands?

He wasn't forced on 4 different managers. At most 2: Ronny and Lenny (not that there's any evidence he was forced on them either, just a lack of evidence either way. The fact that Ange and Rodgers 1.0 both wanted to take him with to England with them tells you how forced he was(n't) in those cases. Similarly, the fact that Rodgers 2.0 literally contacted him to persuade him to stay suggests anything but having Kennedy forced on him.

Both positions hold large amounts of influence.

Bankier was also hounded by the fans right alongside lawwell over the last decade or so.its baffling that folk think lawwell is now in some sort of pointless and meaningless position.

It's the old pals act from Desmond giving lawwell the chairmanship and shouldn't really be back at the club a very divisive figure .
We really need new people on the board who think more of the football team rather than shareholders bonuses.

No one knows how much influence he has.

It just bugs me when people arrogantly dismiss it.

As if it’s beyond the realms of possibility that he may have some degree of influence over someone he mentored for years, and his own son.

He may very well he a good coach and fact that both wanted him to follow him suggests that but absolutely no doubt neither of them had any clue who he was and wasnt their choice that he was there it was Lawwells.

He's gained a lot of experience and has no doubt became a good coach but 10 years ago he wasn't and was getting jobs he should of been nowhere near.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it just seems to me Lawwell is an easy target to blame when things aren't going well, but gets zero praise when things are good..

He retained a seat on the board for the two years before he came back as Chairman, so did he all of a sudden have zero influence then?

I get this window has been slow and there isn't much time left, difficult to know what input he has had tho..

Let's see where we're at when it slams shut and if we haven't done what we need to do then 2+2 may well = 4

There’s so many reasons why Lawwell is disliked, maligned, despised, whatever, but they’ve all been discussed to death on here.

The main reason for the return of this thread is probably the fact that we resembled an efficiently run football club in the two years he wasn’t here in an official capacity.

People see that he’s returned and we’re back to the old days of needing three or four key positions filled with days left in the window, despite having had secured guaranteed Champions League income months ago.

That may be the lazy argument or it may be the logical argument, no one really knows. But his reemergence is a key common denominator for the return of the way we used to conduct our business. That’s a fact.

That's not the same as being forced on you, though.
I'd never heard of bubble tea before the first time I was given one; but I enjoyed it. I wasn't forced to drink it.
I'm forced to do a job I don't enjoy. It's against my will but I have no choice.
