Agreed, but for a slightly different set of reasons: 1. he doesn't know what players he needs or where to find them 2. he's got tactics that won't work in Europe and thus can't lead us forward.

McInnes has Kilmarnock overachieving. Can Rodgers make us overachieve in Europe? Based on his first tenure and the start of this one, no. Happy to be quoted if he shows tactical brilliance and does something of note with us.

He wanted to take a year out. Let's face it - he had a MASSIVE hand in Leicester's relegation despite some saying "aye but he didn't get them relegated", even though their form prior to his sacking indicates that they were always going down.

I can't help but feel Rodgers in his current iteration is damaged goods. I'm not writing him off yet, but employing a manager who has a recent relegation on his CV worried me. The first 3 games haven't done anything to change my mind so far.

His lowkey and passive attitude definitely hasn't helped things. You could argue his conduct so far might reflect him not wanting to go overboard and feed the support * again.

But he doesn't need to go into Brent mode to get the support on board. Just be confident, assertive, and show us that there's a plan and we're headed in the right direction. Don't tell us we have a squad full of quality and a few weeks later say we need "match winners". It confuses the support.

At least before he had a certain arrogance and aura about him after almost winning the league with Liverpool etc. It just feels insipid this time around.

Sunday was the same old crap he served up towards the end of his 1st spell with a different squad. That's the thing that's bothering me more than anything.

Clinging on to his quotes about its time for match winners/quality to come in now. Hopefully he wasn’t talking *.

    Surely not?

I didn't want Rodgers and couldn't care less if he walked tonight. But even I'm giving him until Christmas at least :giggle1:

See, I used to think like this; but it's short-term thinking. We've got to think in terms of improving our standard in the medium to long term.

Whether people want to admit it or not, the guy who got us the most "punching above our weight" victories in Europe was Neil Lennon (since WGS anyway). Does anyone want Lenny back instead of Rodgers? Thought not. OK, maybe you think Lenny is a dinosaur, OK, so what about McInnes? He'd probably have us scrappy as * in Europe and teams would hate coming to CP. Can't get by the fact he's a Hun? Then what about Moyes? His teams have a definite ceiling but they are always hard to beat and take some big scalps.

None of this leads anywhere in the long term, though. Is Rodgers a tactician who will make us overachieve in Europe? Not really, no. What he is though, is a very good coach who can develop the team and develop players and help us to gradually improve our own standard.

If it's a few good results short-term in Europe you want, we'd honestly be better with Moyes and give him the money to buy players for what what one channel describes as "David Moyes basics*" (see clip below).

I'd much rather have Rodgers myself.

    * Hard to beat, crosses, 4-2-3-1, fight to win, big physical lads.

In order to improve our own standard, we first have to build European reputation back from scratch. And that won't happen if we get pumped while trying to copy elite football with SPFL level players (mostly). Get a "dinosaur" in to have our name noted by young players as a place where they can make a name for themselves while taking down big clubs here and there. Later, with greater appeal, we can attract names that would not want to be here right now. Perhaps modern football tactics could start to be implemented at that point, including building attacks from the back even in Europe.

Let's rebuild our reputation by rebuilding the standard of our football. I want us to be like Porto or Ajax, *, maybe even Benfica if at all possible. That's what attracts players not a one-off 2-1 victory parking the bus against Barcelona.

Depression is a vile illness. I have it myself, although my worst thoughts have little to do with Celtic. I understand him, though. We all hoped for the club to prepare well for Europe. Instead, we sold our best winger to * that don't even appreciate him, we haven't replaced him or brought in a new LB and GK. We aren't playing well at the moment, and our players are as tough a wet paper bags, when it comes to injuries. Many reasons to feel depressed.

You have to remember that it’s the same guy posting that who declares himself done with the club every time we aren’t 1-0 up inside 25 minutes.

That being said whilst there is probably reason for a bit of concern as to how our squad is looking the doom and gloom and negativity after one bad result is embarrassing.
