Cameron Carter-Vickers has sparked a major Celtic concern as fears emerge that another lengthy absence is in store for the American.

Brendan Rodgers is seeing injury problems pile up and a 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock in the Viaplay Cup on Sunday had him admitting he was looking to add more 'quality' to his ranks before September's 1st transfer deadline. Celtic will play St Johnstone on Saturday before a pressure cooker first derby of the season against arch rivals Rangers.

And according to the Scottish Sun, Carter-Vickers is 'set to miss the Rangers fixture.' There's more worries for boss Rodgers too as "there are major fears the influential USA defender could face an extended period out after being forced off at Aberdeen last weekend." Already, Stephen Welsh is facing an extended period on the sidelines although new signing Gustaf Lagerbielke has eased one selection issue at the back after Carl Starfelt's departure. Liam Scales is also fit and available amid Aberdeen's pursuit of him but Carter-Vickers will be a concern after he missed the end of last season with a knee problem

 

He's * allergic to European football.

 

Extended period could mean November at the earliest, bit of a nightmare.

Was clearly rushed back, there was no need for him to play at home to Ross County, I know it was the Aberdeen game that done him in but that extra week of rest might have done him wonders.

He wasn't rushed back, of he got a recurrence of his previous injury then fair enough, but he was ready. The hammy could have gone at any point.

 

I’m sorry but if he’s out for a couple months then we can kiss goodbye to any European aspirations and the league will be tight.

Take him out of our back line and it’s average at best. Potentially shambolic when under pressure against greater teams.

Appreciate BR said he wanted 4 CBs and he has them in CCV, Nawrocki, Lagerbielke and Welsh but 3 of them are now out potentially medium-long term. It would negligent of us to not sign another CB now.

 

We won’t know but it doesn’t seem a coincidence that CCV wasn’t back in full first team training until just after Japan and had a short preseason. Getting a soft tissue injury after that suggests being under prepared. Nawrocki probably the same and I worry about Johnston being brought straight back in and something happens to him too.

 

We don't actually know what is going on here, but it is not as straightforwards to say as he has injured another area its not related as when recovering your body is likely to be compensating for the weakness of one area by placing strain on another.

 

This season is getting worse by the day man, * me.

 

Just think that if there was any concern over whether or not he was ready to go, he wouldn't have been risked. Especially after coming back from surgery, you don't panic and risk throwing someone in if it's a gamble.

Current injury situation is just sheer bad luck and it can and has happened to every club at some point.

I've said we don't actually know what's happening, I was just pointing out that just because it's not the exact same area doesn't mean it's not caused by being introduced too soon.

My opinion is that's exactly what's happened, but it's only an opinion. Both Ange and Rodgers have had a tendency to take these things to the edge, which is why I think there is something to be looked into here.

 

If rocki and CCV are long term injuries then a centre half on loan needs to come in but it would help if we got a new left back and keeper as well but not great we have to play them together at the bigotdome as their first game .

 

We are left with only two center backs. One is a cover and one is the cover's cover.

Need another center back. Again.

Could be the same up top if Kyogo gets injured.
