all he had to do was keep the winning system and add to it with his own stuff to enhance it rather than dismantle it all we've went from we never stop to we always stop and tippy tappy * football.

I guess if our new manager wasn't Rodgers, there would be more patience and understanding for the new man, time to implement system etc..

The standards he set last time and the manner of his departure ensures he gets little leeway to implement his own identity on the squad.. he'll be well aware of this of course but it is very early in his tenure..

He is trying to play a controlled possession based 4-3-3 which he never played his first time it was a 4-2-3-1.

He likes inverted wingers which we don't have at all, the double pivot can't work because he doesn't have anyone he trusts to sit in with mcgregor.

12 days left in window to get 4 top quality experienced signings in the door. Even then if it's last embers of window they are unlikely to feature at ibrox.

They are * but on yesterday showing I think they would dominate our team on 3rd September and probably batter us.

No manager in world football comes into a new club and says "aye that's fine I'll just copy the old guy". If he did that I'd actually think less of him.

We all knew he wouldn't play that way. As I said in another thread last night if the club wanted to continue that route they should have targeted someone who has that style. Or st least closer to it.

For me, Rodgers is still the man for the job. His 1st defeat in 26 Cup games hasn't changed that.

It’s easy to rewrite history and say the mood was good despite the poor start under Ange but the truth is it wasn’t. We were off the back of our worst season in decades, had appointed a relative unknown, been knocked out the champions league by a very poor side, and lost 3 of our first 6 league games including one against the huns. We were a late winner at Pittodrie away from serious pressure being on him.

I can remember idiots calling for his head after the livi game in which we looked brutal.

We rightly stuck by him, backed him and he did the business. Same needs to be done here, it’s one bad result ffs.

Yang can play inverted, and Abada already is that. He has two dedicated CDM-s, and should pick one at least for tougher games. Some of the trouble he's had is self-inflicted. In Scotland, you don't need top class everywhere, just sensible tactics with players used in suitable positions.

"Keep the winning system" suggested to me that you think he should have changed very little from the previous regime.

Kyogo coming deep has worked and would have worked again yesterday had Oriley been more composed or picked out Holm in the middle after a kyogo knock on. It's worked in the first two games.

One defeat hasn't changed that. He and the players need time.

I'd argue perhaps the opposite. Anges tactics weren't really sensible, he treated the opposition here with distain almost and just went all out attack 90% of the time. I think that's how it should be done.

It's a reason the Huns hated GVB as he was too sensible and played 2 CDMs every game.

Often saw them being jealous almost of how we had one holder and then everyone in front just going forward.

If there was one thing I'd like Rodgers to take from the old system then it would actually be that. Just go with a bit more of a "this mob are *" approach and 99% of the time we will outscore them.

Or at least a hybrid between his first season here and that.

Still, I think it's sensible to play Taylor as inverted and not change that. Or let Kyogo play the way he's played so far at Celtic. Perhaps I should have clarified what "sensible" meant to me.
We need to take a page out of van Bronckhorst's book in Europe, though. I'd kill for a jammy run to the EL final.

Ironically, a hoofball manager would make us to for the throat more than modern managers. Thank * we brought Lagerbielke with his long pass. Taylor is fine if inverted, otherwise no. Tierney better hurry back here.

Anyone else just feel that things have gone a bit flat?

There’s a real feeling of that around the club lately I think. Perhaps it’s the shock of losing Ange / Jota etc combined with the drawn out transfer dealings, but I’m struggling to get up for the new season in the way that I have the last couple of years. I’m still relatively optimistic compared to some though :giggle1:

    Yeah, odd.

Didn’t think we had much physicality last season and performed extremely well.

    Agreed.

The talk from Rodgers about kicking on in Europe helped alleviate the disappointment of losing Ange but tbh losing Jota, and then watching that Spurs performance against United compared to ours vs Killie has just brought me right down again.

Need some big moves in the transfer market this week and a massively improved performance at the weekend to lift the spirits. If there's no real statement signing(s) and another disjointed display I'll be dreading the next few months football wise.

The weird thing is when Rodgers spoke at his original presser upon arriving back, he spoke with a lot of confidence about our future plans, but then after that we proceeded with more project signings and allowed weeks to go by with little or no activity in the transfer market.

The 2 things don't really add up tbh, ambitious plans but not matched with the signings.

Right now most of us are dreading the prospect of the CL, something we should be looking forward to.

I believe its a great tactic it gives us the overload in midfield and allows kyogo to make late runs into dangerous areas .
