I keep getting Japanimation * ads at the bottom of my screen here. Big booked girl saying to the guy "your size always surprises me". Does anyone else get this or is it a tailored ad? Dunno why it would be tailored to me though, I've never downloaded Hentai and I'm on O2 so * is blocked any way. Lol 20 year old sim card and I need to call their customer service if I want some filth.

Nankyoku Monogatari (Antarctica) is my favourite Japanese film. Has a fantastic Vangelis soundtrack. I cried at the end of this film. Best to see the full extended cut.

Disney done a pretty awful remake that deviated wildly from the proper story that they called Eight Below. Eight Below? Eight Below? It's Antarctica FFS try 58 below.

Lol, being on O2 means the link probably won't work. When I tried to use an ad blocker here an anti adblocker stopped me accessing the site.

I've heard that since Brave is based on Chrome's code that very soon the blockers won't work on Chrome or Brave. Possibly Firefox too.

Ooh don't know that one..Speaking of monogatari..I really liked this wacky one..(the trailer's quite poor) but the film is quite off it and pretty funny!

    I wonder what Monogatari means?

If you like dogs there's a good chance that film will get you weepy. I've heard that you can go and see Taro and Jiro at the natural history museum in Tokyo. Also heard that their breed doesn't exist any more so they had to use similar looking but not quite the same dogs.

Through Vangelis albums I had heard a lot of the music before seeing the film but I had enjoyed the other film he scored like Blade Runner, 1492 and Chariots of Fire. Avoid the Disney remake like the plague.

It means 'tales / stories' so Shimotsuma Monogatari means Shimotsuma Stories / story / tales (which is a place like Glasgow so Glasgow Stories / tales etc)

Why they called it Kamikaze Girls in English is a weird one? Very fun film though!

Yeah - I'll defo add it to the list - I've watched most of the best Japanese films so I always want to try good recommendations

Oh yeah I'd forgotten about that one. The Ring or Ringu (I think that's it's Japanese name) was fantastic. Very creepy.

A couple of Takeshi Kitano films worth checking out if you haven't already seen them: Violent Cop and Battle Royale.

The Hunger Games is like a hugely diluted version of Battle Royale.

Another Japanese film just sprung to mind as I was typing up this reply: Tetsuo the Iron Man. It is pretty strange though.

You'd probably like the Abroad in Japan youtube channel. Right now he's doing a Journey Across Japan series. He's in the north of Honshu just now.

If anyone fancies living in Japan for up to two years you can go and study Japanese at a language school. It gives you access to a work visa and a place to stay. You can study beginners Japanese at an easy standard. It's actually affordable.

On average, it's £4k for a year of school fees
£2.5k for a room and bed in a dorm for a year...you can pay more and get your own flat.
To put it into perspective, I was paying £550 a month for a room in Inverness. That same room in Japan would have cost me £225 a month.

So £6.5k of savings can get you a year in Japan. You also get a student visa that allows you to work for 28 hours a week.

You need to apply six months ahead of time. There are 4 options

For two years study, the course starts in April so apply six months earlier
For 1.9 years in Japan, the course starts in July so apply six months earlier
For 1.6 years in Japan, the course starts in October so apply six months earlier
For 1.3 years in Japan, the course starts in January so apply six months earlier

It's just an idea I'm playing with - Fukuoka!

Just spent 17 days in Japan on this trip and at the airport waiting to fly home.

Started in Osaka, then went to Kyoto, then Nara, then Hiroshima, then Fukuoka, then flew up to Tokyo and explored there and the surrounding cities.

Seeing the atomic bomb dome and peace park museum in Hiroshima was a particular highlight. Also had one of the best meals of my life in Kyoto, unagi from a speciality eel restaurant.
