He looks really slow currently, is he carrying an injury?

If we had more depth in midfield, I'd honestly be dropping him.

 

Always willing to hold back on havy criticism of Cal, as he's entitled to a drop in form as much as anyone. But he was * pitiful today. Absolute shitebag. Worrying.

 

Let's be frank, there's a decline in him..

Can't cover ground as well as he used to, outmuscled off the ball, susceptible to being man marked out of the game.. etc.


Whether it's permanent remains to be seen, but we've ran him into the ground over recent years given we've never had anyone good enough to play in his position.

 

I think he would be a totally different player if we had an actual proper physical holding mid leave him to do the donkey work and let Mcgregor and Hatate/O'Riley play forward ... I feel like I've been saying that for years but it never seems to change

 

A terrible start to the season. The change in system is leaving him isolated as he’s being double marked and the full backs aren’t coming inside anywhere near as much now.

 

He's been absolutely pish in all three games so far, think only Taylor and Maeda have been as bad.

Although the midfield 3 don't look like they have a clue what they should be doing tbf.

 

Aye he looks a yard slower and off the pace..

Getting caught on the ball the last few games more than I've ever seen him and getting outpaced which doesn't happen often..

The system probably isn't helping and he can't seem to get us starting off attacks from our third at the minute.....but looking leggy. Can't get away from it..

 

He deserves to be dropped but won't be. Shocking start to the season, looks like the midfield version of Greg Taylor so far.

 

He doesn’t look fit at all, maybe burnt himself out over the last few years and it’s caught up. I’d give Iwata a chance in the holding role.

 

He was * today tbh, and I think it's been noticeable he hasn't started the season well, hopefully just adjusting to the new system and nothing to worry about.

It stands out so much more with him because he is normally excellent too.

 

I definitely think he's been affected by a change to the system

 

He was below par for a spell last season as well but in fairness to him he's played about 4 million games in the past 5 years

 

Don’t think he’s completed a pass more than 5 yards this season, outpaced plenty and caught on the ball too often.

 

Wonder if he needs a rest just from the amount he’s played last few seasons even with the break he was with scotland so got * all of a break. Bad start to the season regardless. Not like him, hopefully turns it around

 

3 games, 3 worryingly poor performances.

No one should be undroppable. This mindset is part of the problem.

 

Looks like he's hurting, and rightly so. Hopefully he takes his own advice and his teammates aswell. Has to start showing his character again and it has to be instant.

 

Invisible so far this season. Just because of past achievements, doesn't mean he should get a pass. Everyone is treated fairly. And to say he's been poor or could be dropped is absolutely fair.

 

Love Cal but he’s had a slow start to the season and was quite poor today.
