Might be too soon for Lagerbielke, can't have trained much with team etc.. also Welsh was excellent when he came on v Aberdeen.. I'd throw Lagerbielke in as he may need to play at Ibrox just not sure Rodgers will.

 

Outside Calmac, Welsh is probably the home grown player closest to the first XI tied with Forrest. If he's happy to play the fourth fiddle I'm good with that. He's an important squad player.

Same for me, if for nothing else it's the smallest cup and if Rodgers convinced him by saying he'll get game time it's these sort of games he'll expect to play. Also, after the Aberdeen game he deserves it.

 

If he was being kept as a starter or even 3rd choice you'd have a few questions, but as a homegrown 4th choice CB? Absolute no-brainer.

Besides, there's clearly been interest in him from different leagues, so extending his contract maximises what we can get for him if we do decide to sell. Perfect win-win situation IMO.

Welsh is an enigma in himself. Can play absolutely excellent but have some real horror shows.

 

Glad to see he's staying. He could us some more game time though.

Wonder if we could do a deal like this with an SPL club:
Take Scales on loan until January.
We keep Welsh as 4th choice CB for CL groups.
Then in January, depending on injuries/Europe, Scales comes back to us and they get Welsh on loan until the end of the season.

Does make you wonder how we are dealing with those in the back four.

Basically every one of our defenders bar Scales have been out injured at least once, but probably multiple times, over the last season.

Can't remember that being normal.

 

Welsh has picked up a knock in training so look like Lagerbielke will be thrown in..

I haven't really seen these horror shows, honestly. Are there any examples you can think of? I've always liked him so maybe I'm biased and missing something but I can't think of anything specific and have always thought the criticism was way over the top.

 

It's mostly being outmuscled by bigger players. But that's hardly a horror show. His decision-making is generally OK, and he's a great interceptor of passes.

Anyhow, I hope he gets to play some games this season. He didn't have to help the club out with the quota.

 

We know our 4 CBs for the season. One position sorted at least.
