Isn't Timber more of a CB tho, he can play across the whole defence.

Newcastle signing the left back from Chelsea Lewis Hall

Looks like his options are dwindling

Speaks volumes then that Timber started at left back in the Community Shield ahead of KT, with Zinchenko out. Would suggest to me that KT is third choice, at best.

I hope for his own sake that he moves somewhere where he’s valued more highly than that. Obviously I’d love that to be here, but we definitely don’t have all our eggs in that one basket.

TEAMtalk understands that Brendan Rodgers is pushing Celtic hard to offer Kieran Tierney a route back to the club this summer.

Arsenal star Tierney has sunk down the pecking order at the Emirates in the last 12 months following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City at the start of last season. As a result, the 26-year-old was restricted to just six Premier League starts.

Now it seems the Gunners are ready to cash in, having made it clear they want to sell the player rather than loan him out. Having spent £25m on him back in 2019, Arsenal are looking for a small profit on their investment, placing a figure of £30m on his head.

Newcastle are long-term admirers of the player but appear to have been put off by the valuation and are instead closing on a deal for Chelsea’s Lewis Hall. The Magpies will pay the Blues £28m for Hall, albeit the payments will likely be deferred for an initial 12 months. That was something Arsenal were not prepared to do with Tierney.

Now Celtic are keen and hoping to talk Arsenal into a deal, although the structure of which is yet to be decided.

Indeed, Celtic are aware of Arsenal’s wish to offload the player and believe his price could lower towards the back end of the window.

However, Rodgers is desperate to reunite with his former charge, having also tried to sign Tierney during his stint as Leicester boss.

Now we underdstand he is asking his Celtic bosses to negotiate terms with Arsenal for Tierney.

Johnson CCV Lager KT would take bodies back there.

Can’t wait for the pics of him in Glasgow Airport on deadline day.

Please don't. I've come round to the idea of a loan but buying him is a terrible idea. £20-30 million on an injury-prone 26-year-old is utter, utter madness. Rodgers' area of expertise is in the playing side of it (and we can all see that KT is quality); he has no particular competence when it comes to the financial sense of a deal and needs to be overruled here. Can't believe I'm saying this, but hopefully Peter Lawwell still has some influence because he would definitely put a stop to this idea.

Rodgers needs to be backed with the kind of players he wants and I'm absolutely not against spending £20+ million; but on a young player with sell-on value.

Spending £20-30m on Tierney after all the penny pinching would be close to financial suicide for Celtic. Not usually too bothered about the financial side but that is * money away.

Hopefully a load of made up paper nonsense, but if, and it's a big if, Rodgers is pushing for that then he's unfit to manage the club.

The only argument I can see for spending a sum like £8m on Tierney is that his presence in CL games might get some payback in terms of contribution and gaining points. But if it's £20-£30m then 2 or 3 quality additions for a similar total would make that much more likely and they would all likely be sold on and recoup some of the money back, which fairly obviously won't happen with Tierney.

A loan had all sorts of football risks, but buying him for that sum is ludicrous.

Guys, take a breather and use your head, Celtic will never pay that sort of fee for a player, nor is there any indication online that we want to.

The Papers are saying that's what Arsenal want, but nobody is going to offer them anything above £15 million. Rodgers pushing for a deal is a good thing, most likely a loan.

Cheers @HTG. Still think spending £15m would be way too much to risk on Tierney. Even a loan I'm not keen on as worry about his fitness.

If we are spending that sort of money, not sure why we aren't casting our net wider. We could likely strengthen in 2 positions and not carry the same risks.

I think the chance of us outright buying him is zero tbh, it'd be a loan or a LTB at best, giving his injury issues.

We won’t pay even half of what they want for him so folk can spark a reefer on that one.

If we manage to get him it will be a loan on one of the last days of the Window when no other option has been exercised.

That article is nonsense. Not a chance Arsenal are expecting a profit on a player who is now their 4th or 5th choice full back and has struggled to stay injury free for 5 years.

The mere idea of spending anywhere near the amount being talked about on KT makes me feel ill.
