Yeah they'll be better than the rest but the derbys would not be close
games if we kept investing and improving for Europe.

We had a free run at the champions league for ten years and only managed to qualify 4 times. That's entirely on our inability to consistently improve and invest properly.

I completely get that we're still better than them but not by the margin we should be.

It's worse than that, because even that assessment is just domestically. In Europe in the last 5 years, even that bunch of perennial losers has clearly outperformed us. Not only a final but 2 other seasons where they won a knockout tie, something we haven't managed in * knows how long. They're hardly some kind of benchmark either. The CL is above our paygrade these days; but our EL performances and Conference League tie have been a disgrace.

I have mixed feelings about that. If they qualify, they'll get all that money to invest; but they're also going to get horsed the same as we are in the CL. If PSV put them out, we'll get all the money; but we'll be the ones getting bent over 6 times and eliminated in the autumn while they're enjoying a European run well after Christmas in the EL.

The current system is a mind *.

Window is going exactly how I anticipated it. Kept being told to be patient, "keep the faith, there's 8 weeks left". Then 6, then 4; now 2.

It's ridiculous how long we're taking here. We still need 4 first team starters. Doesn't seem likely at this point. Unless they have a few aces up their sleeves, we're all going to be massively disappointed.

We're going into the third domestic game of the season a considerably weaker side. No matter how folk try and paint it, it's been nowhere near good enough.

You would think they'd want to try and bed players in ready for the CL. It almost seems as if they're content with just being better than the huns and couldn't give a * about European progression.

Not just for the money, want them having to catch-up every week playing thursday/sunday after us, serial bottlers really won't enjoy that.

Don't even think 4 new players would be enough for even europa league never mind champions League.

What's the bigger mental challenge, though? Winning on a Sunday after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over a peer competitor at home in the EL or winning on the Saturday after being skelped 6-0 in the CL for the 3rd time in a month?

What difference does that make if a lot of the business is likely going to be done on deadline day?

Champions league bigger competition with better financial reward. Rather us be in CL and them not in it all day. Us getting skelped is on our manager and our players and up to them to recruit better or use better tactics etc to sort that out. I do agree we need bodies in to do better right now especially with lads out injured but if not we’ve still got to show up n give 100%. If we get skelped we learn and take out the frustration on who we play domestically and go again next season. (Obviously I don’t want us to get skelped)
But yeah would rather the Huns not get into the CL

Mate, I know most people will think I'm stupid; but if you offered me the chance to take the CL money but compete in the EL, I'd take it. I dread CL games these days more than anything else. I also genuinely enjoy the EL games. It's the only time really that we actually get to play our peers.

In the medium term, you're right. In the short term, as in the next couple of seasons, we could have Pep as our manager and we're still getting skelped.

Last paragraph has been our boards mindset for well over a decade now. They’ll just be thinking of the coin coming in from CL, which we have achieved again so it’ll just be about trying by win league again.

It's just the model the board have sell Tierney for £25 million and buy Taylor for £2 million and now Jota been sold for £25 million so expecting the replacement to be similar.
I know buy big for Celtic doesn't make the player quality just look at Ajeti and Barkus and then look at CCV and Jota so it's all down to recruitment and hopefully we get a few gems in before the window closes.
