Callum is a stand up guy...Deffo going down the legendary path. I was worried when he was filling in after Broony but so far he has been fantastic.

He's such a nice guy, so down to earth and very working class.

Besides his personality, he's a cracking footballer. Goes about his business on the pitch in a classy manner. Doesn't talk * in the press every week like that Tavpenier fud.

It really makes me happy that we have such a top fella as our captain and ambassador, makes me proud to be a Celtic supporter.

Brilliant. You couldn't ask for a better ambassador for the club or on field leader.

Let's be honest though, Cal was just delighted he got to give away that abomination of a top :giggle1:

Love the fact when questioned about the obvious dive for the pen, focused on why the move resulted in the penalty, not the ridiculous decision itself.

Said the ball should have been cut out about 3 passes before the incident.

He has really matured as a player and is a very deserving person to Captain this club.

Been here since Eight years of age. Will be remembered among the best of them.

Love the guy. Its been amazing watching him grow as a player here, being only a few years older than me.

Just seen his sky sports interview what a mentality this lad has! Unreal! Focused on celtic not interested in anything else, last season forgotten about. "What the rest do is irrelevant" completely 100% correct! We just need to stay in front!

What’s made Callum McGregor such a success as a player and captain at Celtic over the past decade is that when the new season rolls around, he is ready to press start and go and win again.

It’s that hunger and desire to never settle which makes him not just an outstanding player, but also an outstanding leader.

In just nine years in the Celtic first-team, he’s won a remarkable 20 honours, five of those coming as captain and three from the previous campaign's historic treble success.

The next and last time that McGregor will think about last season’s Treble is when the flag is raised this Saturday against Ross County, with all his focus and excitement turning to what he and the team can achieve in the next 10 months.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's game, the Celtic captain said: “I can’t wait to get going and to hear the first whistle.

You do all this work in pre-season and you just want the first game to come along. Then you get into your rhythm and that’s where you’re comfortable as a football player.

“It’s the same as every season. There’s always anticipation to get going and I’m sure Saturday will be the same.

'We have to improve, it’s simple. We had a tremendous season last year but we need to park it.'

“We have a new manager, some new players and a fresh test of mentality, quality and finding a way to win.

“You have to try and settle into that mode as quickly as you can. Of course, you want a positive start, and good results and performances to build on.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have that winning feeling a fair few times and when you start a new season then it doesn’t count for anything.

“Everyone’s looking to see if you can win it again and you need to find the answers. To play at a top club like this, you have to take that challenge on and embrace it.”

Following on from a season in which the team gained 99 points and won every domestic trophy could be a daunting task, but McGregor and his team-mates are relishing the challenge this new season offers.

Under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers, McGregor knows exactly how the manager will push the team to improve and there’s a willingness from within to strive for better.

McGregor added: “There’s always a challenge with new players coming in to push and create a competitive edge within the squad.

'When you come together as a club and a squad, then you have 11 other teams trying to beat you and that’s the pressure you want as a football player and you want to stay at the front.'

“We understand how hard that challenge is but it’s something we relish. There’s always a natural progression from season to season.

“We had a really successful style last year and picked up the three trophies with some unbelievable levels throughout the season.

“We overcame small challenges last year and this season will be the same. We will settle into a new way of playing and there might be bumps along the road, but we have to be ready for all of that.

“Over the 38 games you have to show you’re good enough and perform to go and win the league. The manager will push us on that and all we can do is give our maximum.”

Didn't think he was that great today or in pre-season.

Hopefully it's just start-of-the-season rustiness. Needs to be rotated far more this year. I think it's mismanagement if we continue to see him play 50-60 games a season without being rested.

Make sure you get involved in the game early. Quick start, aggressive, get it short, get the cross.

“Get the whole place buzzing, early doors.”

The last thing we need is less Calmac in the side…

His role will develop under Rodgers, it just seems to me a few are finding their feet with the system and Cal is probably best example of that. When he does he will consistently be our best/most important player week in and week out as he always is.

Yeah he wasn't at it today at all. Right few sloppy passes and being caught wrong side of the ball.

For those who are in love.....
First time in a long time that I've seen him chasing a ball down with a slight head start and lose out..

Has looked a touch slower a few times towards tail end of last season also..

Hopefully just slightly rusty but there's been such a demand on him for a long time now that it wouldn't overly surprise me if he was starting to feel it more..

I know he's only what, 30? But he's played an insane amount of games the last 5 seasons.

Hopefully we can rotate him a bit more with Holm for example this season.
