UEFA really need to change their minds about the EL parachute. There's a few pot 3 clubs and most pot 4 clubs who will have nothing to play for in Europe next season, including us IMHO. It's a terrible decision and makes the CL even more boring for us than it already is.

    They don't give a * mate.

I think the football landscape is going to change drastically in the next few years. Saudi now hoovering up the best talent. CL still stacked against anyone but the richest.

I really want to see a concerted effort from the likes of Scotland, Scandinavia, Portugal, Belgium etc.

People are getting fed up of the status quo. A genuine competition that may take a few years to catch up but I think their is a real desire for change. Football geared towards fans, for fans, by fans and fair and equal.

Even noticed us using the smoke the other day when raising the flag.

Proper European competion with some historical names, safe standing, safe pyro, cheap tickets and full stadiums.

Some may say I'm a dreamer...

Super League? Let's have a Proper League.

No excuses not to now with this Saudi stuff.

It's just as quick to get to Portugal as it is Dingwall.

Worlds the oyster. Stick fingers up at UEFA and FIFA. Everyone else is.

Depressing comments from Rodgers, but expected. What does he mean by 'realism', exactly? In his first press conference wasn't he talking about being competitive in Europe etc.

We aren't going to win it but our players went into Europe in his last tenure with an inferiority complex. Even if the players last season didn't really believe they were good enough, you can bet your life the opposite was being said by Ange in the dressing room.

Leaving that aside, I'm more worried that his latest comments might be alluding to the fact that we won't spend proper money on much needed positions. I'm praying things start to ramp up over the next few days but it's like * groundhog day lately. I'm stunned that we still haven't replaced Jota, brought in a new GK or been linked to another LB when we're sitting on the biggest bundle of cash I can remember as a fan.

I keep saying this. I might be wrong but I doubt it very much.

The market we are trying to spend serious money in don't see Scotland as a first choice destination.

Like it or not a lot of players will be waiting to see how the CL qualifiers pan out. They will have lots of options.

That's what I'm clinging to anyway.

I reserve the right to lose my * if we don't spend serious cash.

I don't think it will come to that though.

We might have a number one target in mind who has heard PSV are interested. He might want to wait it out to see what happens with their CL qualifiers.

Nature of the beast I'm afraid.

Or we could go * millions on perennial losers just to appease some ugly lavvy slurpers and end up looking amatuer with a squad full of overpaid arrogant twats.

He’s used the word assessment a lot, he’s had several games and weeks now.

We’ve done enough assessing, let’s see some action to strengthen the areas that are so glaringly weak.

This is the most important point of the whole transfer window, yet the one most ignored by almost every * :56:

I'd even go so far as to say that anyone not coming from Asia (where players are underrated) or who isn't a project signing, who is just happy to sign up to play in the SPL without taking some time to assess their options might not be the quality we're looking for.

Is there a presser today? We could do with some clarity on transfers. Be good to just know if we are doing anything or just getting a couple more in the £2/3m bracket in.

He won't say anything for obvious reasons..

It's clear we will be doing stuff in the background. He'll just give the pc answer about us trying to improve the squad..

There's no way there'll be no more incoming after the swede signs. No chance it's left like that. I know we're all itching to get signings in the door but as stated previously traditionally our bigger signings are more or less deadline day.

Genuinely baffles me why some of our fans, over and over again, expect us to just come out and give anything of substance on possible transfers, and then wind themselves up when it doesn't happen, as if it was ever going to.

Rodgers won't want to be left in a precarious position when the window closes, rest assured we will be working to get players in and out before the end of the month.

In our mind i think we thought when Rodgers returned the business would be done and dusted by now, don't mind waiting if it's gonna be worth it in the long run.

Key thing at this point is not to panic and trust the recruitment team and manager, we will get there.

Brendan Rodgers opens up on Saudi Arabian offer and makes Celtic transfer window warning - 'that is unfortunately what can happen'
Brendan Rodgers uses the word “interesting” to describe the financial package offered to him by a Saudi Arabian club earlier this year. Gargantuan, eye-watering, maybe even vulgar would probably work, too.

Rodgers wasn’t swayed by the prospect of moving to the Gulf state so soon after leaving Leicester City but he’s in a small minority on that front. Jota has gone from Celtic, Fashion Sakala has sped out of Rangers and even stellar Premier League talent like Jordan Henderson, Ruben Neves and Riyad Mahrez have hopped onto the Saudi gravy train with a view to topping up their bank balances with as many riyal as they can.

“I had two really long meetings with a team out there,” Rodgers revealed. “From a financial perspective of course it was interesting. Out of respect I spoke to them and then again. But my whole mindset still at that point was to have time out. It was only after that that I spoke to Celtic. What makes it interesting is they [the Saudi Pro League] obviously have a plan, in terms of what they are wanting to do and achieve in terms of football, and they have money

Do there are two items there that are dangerous; a plan and money. They want the game to grow and it is interesting to see the number of top players who have gone out there. I spoke at length to Jordan Henderson before he went. We have seen other players going out. If players, managers and coaches are going to be offered the level of finance that is being offered then of course it can make you wobble.”

Rodgers has spoken about the need to have a replacement lined up for whenever a first-team figure, like Carl Starfelt this week, decides to leave. Where that might prove tricky for Celtic – and other European clubs – is when the transfer window here closes, while the Saudi one remains open for almost another month beyond that.

“I think every manager would ideally want (the window) to finish when the first games start,” added Rodgers. “But it doesn’t so we will have to deal with whatever comes our way. We had it a few years back. I can remember the Premier League window shutting early but the European one stayed open. It was changed after that to synchronise football across Europe which would be better.

“Of course, if the Saudi window is still open it will be interesting. A club from Saudi could come in and offer money, a life-changing deal, to a player. That then wobbles the player and you don’t get the same player. That is unfortunately what can happen.”

This summer’s upheaval will just be the start of things, with Saudi clubs likely to use their star names to push for greater influence within the global game. Rodgers is surveying it all with interest. “It’s one where they will probably look to build relations, probably over the course of the next decade or so,” he added. “There’s clearly an appetite there to progress and there’s finance behind it. I think the stadiums are great out there but the infrastructure will need improving. There’s the moral stuff as well. But it’s definitely something that’s making people in the game sit up and take notice.”

Two things to note about Rodgers comments on SA.

    Firstly was his Henderson conversation.

Why would they have that conversation? Henderson phones Brendan Rodgers to ask his opinion on moving to Saudi Arabia? Entirely plausible.
What's more likely is that both Henderson and Rodgers were offered gigs for the same team. Might be a bit of a leap but I'm choosing to view it as a jab at slippy. "Take my leftovers ya * roaster".

Secondly, he knocked it back. Which in itself is very interesting.
I know he's already a multi millionaire, but that's really * you money they're throwing around over there. Fully staffed yacht money. * a house in Mallorca, he could buy a whole town there if he wanted money.
Knocking it back and then coming to us means DD must have really laid something out that wasn't to be sniffed at in terms of ambition. Not talking about this window obviously, but there's something in there that Rodgers said "* it, I'm in".

    I'm encouraged.

I love the sentiment and tend to agree

Still standing firm that Rodgers has been offered/promised/given something to convince him his job at Celtic wasn't finished

There is just no way he comes back, to watch multiple starters leave the club, with next to zero push to strengthen and improve.

That's not to say Yang, Tilio, Kwon, Odin etc may not go on to be better, anything is possible.
But none of the signings so far (bar Nawrocki), suggest a club that is pushing forward with their ambitions to do well in European football.

All signings so far are simply more of the same.
Rodgers doesn't come back for that, surely to *?

There has to be bigger in the plans than what we've already seen.
    Surely.

It's another Danny mcgrain story from the narcissist, he wants us to believe that he is all in with us. He had to drop Hetate because he is a great player, but he didn't sign him, Ange did, a typical narcissist needs to show he is running things now, like playing calmac at left back, he will gradually unpick everything Ange created and it will never be his fault!!!
