Didn’t we sign for £5.5 mil? So basically a minimal profit on him?

Players like Carl were signed to be instant starters, players we sign at 26 aren't going to get us the big fees. It was a necessity at the time to get 1st ready players in and risk not getting higher fees if we did sell, reasonably happy with the quoted fee of 6/7m. The build we did then is now allowing us to again go back to signing younger players

If we sign the two new CB's quoted, we'll be in a better place than we finished last season in that position. Progress.

I would argue we may be in a better place even if we sign nobody.

Nawrocki > Starfelt (I was relatively low on Starfelt)
    Scales > Yuki

Yuki was our 3rd choice centre half since we parted ways with Jenz.

It's ridiculous to say at this point that Nawrocki is better than Starfelt. He's barely played.

He probably isn't better than Starfelt here and now. Starfelt is an experienced CB in his prime. But the point is that Nawrocki shows every sign of having a higher ceiling and we have a manager who is outstanding at developing potential.

In an even more stark example, people are crazy if they think that whoever replaces Jota will be better or even as good initially. We'd have to spend £20 million for that. It will be someone we hope we can develop to that sort of standard.

It's all about the process. We're going to come out of any given window weaker in some areas (hopefully only temporarily until we can develop the new guys) and stronger in others. As long as the general trajectory is up, that is what matters.

Posting this after one appearance is moronic.

Probably, but in saying that Nawrocki looked more comfortable on the left hand side in one game than Starfelt ever did.

Good luck to him and Jacynta, he came in did his Job pretty well and seem well liked in the clubhouse and we made a small profit when he moved on

Didn't Kobayashi look fine initially too? :39:

Way too early to be throwing shade at someone who gave us a few seasons of good service - if not actually spectacular. I'm sure we're all hoping Rocky will be at best as good and hopefully better, but he's not earned that respect yet...
