I dont trust Rodgers in the transfer market either, but since coming back he has hyped out recruitment team up.
If they are as good and improved as he says they are, they should have quality recommendations ready for him.

Jota wasnt really a project.. he already had quality and pedigree. He just hadnt yet reached the levels he was clearly capable of. Tilio, and *, have not played at a level of football which for me, would suggest they are good enough yet. Jota was training and playing with quality.

Looking elsewhere, Kwon isnt a convincing signing on paper either. Why we havnt paid the extra few million pounds for a centre mid of a bit higher calibre i dont know. I get this new approach of buying from the Asian market but its starting to feel a bit scattergun.

Holm is the exception for me. He is clearly a technical player with games under his belt playing in a good standard of league and at a young age he already looks mature and comfortable on the ball.

He got the benefit of the doubt at the time because of our domestic success, but Ange was atrocious in Europe.

Ange got a group containing Leipzig and a war-torn Shaktar Doneskt and failed to win, we won't ever get as easy a group in the CL again.

I think he sees what we see.

If not he will certainly have his cousins etc shouting down his throat telling him that Siegrist is a donkey.

Don't know if I'm being a pessimistic * but I don't really like his wording there. "We'd like to improve on", "We'll look to improve the squad further".

That isn't assertive enough language for me. Get the * cheque book out and make some signings. We need 3 more at an absolute minimum. Personally I'd like 4.

Think you're being a bit too pessimistic there :giggle1:

I can be at the best of times but dunno what else he can say. If he says we WILL sign X Y Z players and we don't then it looks worse.

It could be a way to pressure the board, though.

Currently, Rodgers has a lot of players to choose from. Too many, in fact. There are still in excess of 30 first-teamers on the books at Celtic, but the manager is content that there will be a natural trimming of numbers in the weeks to come.

“There will be a natural feel to the squad in the next number of weeks. Most of the players are clear on where they stand, there’s still a bit of time in the window.

“They wanted to come in and have a chance to work with the new manager, and obviously for me to assess them and lots of the players understand where they’re at, in terms of the opportunities they’ll have here.

“I like to be open with them about where they’re at, so that if they do decide to stay, they understand the conditions they’re working in. But there are some players, and it happens at every club, who haven’t quite pushed on, but then all of a sudden something happens and the world changes for them.

“I like to see that player, I like to work with that player. In terms of the group, it’ll work itself.

“There were some young players brought in at the beginning of the window based around the possibility that players might leave. Even if they don’t, they still have potential to grow.

“We don’t need them ready now, but hopefully they can grow over the next couple of seasons.

“Yeah, everyone will know where they stand. If someone doesn’t fit into what I’m doing, or not into the program, they’ll have the opportunity to leave. If they decide to stay, they will be respected. Their game time might be limited, but they won’t be wandering.

“I’ve had open conversations with a number of guys already, so they know where they fit, they know that they’re a part of the squad. If they want more game-time they may have to look elsewhere.”

Celtic are monitoring the current situation of Croatian Internationalist Dominik Livakovic, according to Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph.

Speaking to The Celts Are Here’s podcast, Joseph revealed the current state of play and suggested that the current deal in flux, with Fenerbahce, was close to collapse.

“Celtic have been closely monitoring Livakovic’s situation. A few days after I reported on it, Fenerbahce had made a bid and they were very close to doing that deal. That deal hasn’t been done yet, there has been a lot of delay to that and it could be on the brink of collapse.

“Other clubs are also interested, we reported that Villareal, Saudi Arabian clubs and I believe another La Liga side are also in for him.”

Joseph explains that the goalkeeping choices in the recent win over Athletic Club emphasise that Rodgers is still reviewing who will be his No.1 between the sticks ahead of the new season, with Hart the man to be deposed.

“Celtic have moved onto other targets. As far as I’m aware, they’re not any further on with these targets yet, and they’re still fully assessing the goalkeeping situation. I think that’s why we saw Siegrist and Scott Bain play the 90 minutes against Bilbao, and Joe Hart didn’t play any.”

Obviously wanting at least another 3 in, but I'd hope to see the following gone:

    Siegrist
    Kobayashi (Loan)
    Welsh
    McCarthy
    Soro
    Ajeti
    Bernabei (Loan)
    Haksabanovic
Vata (Loan if he signs a new contract)

Would be willing to keep both Scales and Turnbull, Scales is a reliable 4th option and Turnbull could go up a level under Rodgers. Sounds harsh on Haksabanovic, and I won't be upset if he stays, but he isn't good enough to play winger and I think Turnbull will be preferred over him in the 10 spot.

Need to start getting a move on now.

A lot of talk about assessing players and getting more in but we will soon be into the second week of August and not any further forward in terms of proper first team strength.

Concern will really build if we end next week without 1-2 signings.

Just get the feeling we have approached a couple of players who are still weighing up their options. Hopefully no EPL has-beens
