Alan stubbs woeful first 6 months
Stan petrov woeful first 12 months
Bobby petta woeful first 12 months
    Zurawski first 3 months

Players take time to settle a think 6 months is a good barometer

I agree. Giakoumakis struggled big time for the first 6 months too.

    Those examples are ancient though.

I'm the modern era I can't think of too many who started poorly and turned out good. Giakoumakis is one (even though his all round game left a lot to be desired throughout his time here). Starfelt had a very shaky start too.

But there's a lot more examples of signings who have hit the ground running and turned out to be consistently good for us. From Ange's team alone - Kyogo, Abada, Jota, Johnston, Juranovic, CCV, Hatate, O'Riley and Maeda all started well and remained important players for us.

I understand the settling in period, especially for young overseas players, but Kwon lacked all of the basics of a good player yesterday. I'll see how he adapts over the next 6 months but his poor touch, passing and positioning were pretty alarming.

Tbf Hatate and McGregor also played their part in a midfield that was second best to everything. All of them were poor. The second half midfield were levels above.

People just focus on my 'negative' posts. You can't give an opinion on here without posters piping up these days. When a player does well I'll give them credit, likewise when they perform badly I'll say so.

I'm more concerned that our transfer business is now done for the midfield position. Yesterday's performance from Kwon worries me if we've put all of our eggs in his basket for Europe. Our midfield have struggled in the CL and EL since Wanyama was here. Unless we finally sort this out then I don't see us doing much again. No fan wants to see us papped out of Europe again by Christmas.

Iwata definitely is, he’s just being played out of position and its * his confidence.

I agree he was very poor last night but, to be fair to the boy, the whole midfield was overrun in that first half. I'm pretty sure though that he wasn't bought to progress us in the champions league, definitely a project.

Ive got a feeling about some of these Asian players....that the culture difference and the difference in phyisicality within the Scottish game might be too much for them. Obviously Kyogo has been a massive success, also Hatate and Maeda. However so far I have not been overly impressed with Kobayashi or Iwata. The jury is still out on Oh (although I have a suspicion that he might do ok) and Idiguchi hardly kicked a ball for us.

Im saying that relying this much on players from this part of the world might be too much of a risk. There are no guarentees that they will settle, adapt well and become good players for us. I suppose that goes for any player that you sign from any culture. But I get the feeling that an English player, a German or maybe a Frenchman would find it easier to settle into our culture and our playing system and that players from that part of the world are not at as great a risk of failure as all those from Asia which might prove to be too big a difference in culture and playing style. I hope Im wrong

Getting written off by some after a couple of halves of friendly football, after arriving in a brand new country/culture, playing in a new team with new team mates etc. :56:

Technically not true about big Jackie, he was injured when he signed never had a pre season and Kyogo hit the ground running and he only got the nod due to Kyogo being injured and he grabbed his opportunity.

If the Bilbao game had happened first and the Wolves game second people would be crying out for him to start against Ross County :giggle1:. It'll be hard to know how well he'll settle and adapt after a few months, nevermind a few halves.

Maybe they should stop coming over here and stealing our good European starting places.
