It's not even deadwood- it's more the cover players that I was referring to. If Scales leaves, that means we have nobody but Bernabei that can play LB and challenge Taylor*, and then I'd think we definitely will buy a LB. If Turnbull leaves, we will buy an AM, otherwise no. I think Siegrist leaving is the trigger for a GK signing. Right now Hart is injured, so that may have slowed things down.

*Hatate has experience of playing LB in Japan

 

You know it's squeaky * time when the latest thread in transfer rumours is mostly "player suggestions/non media rumors"....especially during a transfer window lol

 

We've upgraded our manager, but the squad has either stood still or weakened since last season.. apart from centre half.

Month to go.. and significant amount of work to do.

 

I'd say we didn't upgrade or downgrade our manager. Mostly similar views on football. One is a bit better coach- the other one identifies good players better.

 

Why would Scales leaving force us to go for a LB? he wasn't here last season and it never forced us to get a LB. Should only be going for a LB if its to improve on Taylor not just try ship deadwood out to replace with more

 

Well, perhaps Rodgers may want to give him a chance at LB, but that won't happen if Liam goes in search of first team football.

 

I think it's unquestionable that we've upgraded.. Rodgers left us and delivered the best period of consistent success for Leicester in decades.. has managed at the highest level for over a decade..

Ange, with his inherent inflexibility when it comes to tactics, is going into his first EPL job in his late 50s.. let's see how it goes.

 

Yeah I don't realistically see Scales as breaking in to our first team on the basis of a few good friendly performances. He didn't look that great at Aberdeen other than that the fluke goal against the huns. I think we need to strengthen CB/LB regardless

 

Don’t think we will strengthen CB, Starfelt, CCV and Nawrocki for two places. Can’t see another one coming unless it’s a project type

 

Neither are really flexible, despite both having used a variety of formations throughout their careers. True flexibility would involve changing the overall approach based on the quality of the opposition.

 

Actually, you're right, I wasn't factoring Nawrocki into it.

 

Think we would see the back of Welsh and kobi before we sign another CB, unfortunately.

I think we need a new 4th choice. One who is a development, but is actually ready for the game time that will help him and us.
Not an over grown youth talent that is just, here.

I'd not trust either of these two to step in. We need an 18-20 year old who we can have faith in.

Just isn't good enough. Tries and is a decent enough player. But think like Scales, Celtic isn't his level

Rodgers is a standard of manager we can only attract because of his connection to the club.

 

Thats the problem in itself. If he's being playing over 100 games the last 3 seasons I'm sure he would be a better centre half. Potentially at a level we would be more content in keeping. He should have been loaned to a hibs or Aberdeen 2 years ago.

 

Wouldnt be opposed to giving Walsh a year loan to a top 6 side. Shoulda been done last year.

 

We don't need another CB. CCV, Starfelt and Nawrocki are all excellent options, and Scales is good enough as a 4th option for domestic home games.
