Said on tv he announced it this morning to his team, word gets out so maybe that’s how the bbc were tipped off. Hard to keep things like that with press and players being so close. Best of luck to him, only botham before him can I think of as being as much of an “ Aussie “ in mentality, think that’s why he rubbed them up so much tbh lol.

If England win this, it’s going to take longer than the Spanish Inquisition the arguments over that ball change.

With these two, could be plenty left. What’s the odds on this going to the last few overs.

Murphy ain’t a number 10 and Carey looks confident to give him the strike after the first ball of the over.

Would be class if they get over the line and Broad is bowling when they do.

Fantastic series. It would've been a real shame had England lost the series after dominating so much of it overall and played a really attractive and effective brand of cricket. The first test was as much about England losing it as it was about Australia winning. The 2nd test Australia won but Stokes was inspirational and ran it much closer than it had any right to be, the 3rd was in the balance but Brook did play very well to get them over the line, the 4th test was pretty much all England ruined by rain and then this last one.

Special mention to Chris Woakes, who has been massive for England since coming into the side. And the loss of Lyon was a big miss for Australia.

If naming a combined Ashes XI...

Khawaja, Crawley, Duckett, Root, Smith, Stokes, Carey, Woakes, Starc, Cummins, Broad.

Cummins just nudging it from Wood for that spot. Cummins started strong in the first couple of tests, abd 6 tests in 7 weeks is tough, tough ask for any quick. But Wood came in and like Woakes had a big impact, though struggled again a bit at times in this last one. Carey better with the gloves if not with the bat, but still scored 200 runs in the series pverall so not a total failure compared to Bairstow, but Bairstow dropped/missed a LOT of chances, especially in those first 3 tests.

How poor was Labuschagne with the bat in the series?

Cummins was huge in winning the first test. He dragged the Aussies over the line.

That showing the other day was something else. 9 runs from 82 balls I think it was. That’s ridiculous.

This World Cup has been a bit of a dud so far, but...

Afghanistan on the brink of beating England, 8/182 chasing 284.

Afghanistan win by 69 runs. Just their second ever win in 18 attempts at a WC.

England now P3 W1 L2 and have a big uphill battle if they are to retain the World Cup title.

England been absolutely pumped left right and centre, great to see. Genuinely pumped rotten by Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, NZ and South Africa.

Good game earlier between Oz and NZ, went to the wire and Oz came out on top by a handful of runs. Good effort by the kiwis to chase down 388.

The game the other day between Pakistan & Sth Africa was a good'un as well, imo the best of the WC so far with the Proteas winning by 1 wicket.

Overall though, it's been a pretty underwhelming WC so far.

Bit of controversy in Bangladesh v Sri Lanka. First ever timed out wicket in cricket history.

The rule states that after a wicket, the next batsman has 2 mins to get out and make himself available for a delivery.

Angelo Matthews for Sri Lanka was out and ready, but then his strap on his helmet broke and he called for someone to bring him on a new helmet. Bangladesh captain Shakib appealed to the umpire for a wicket and he was given out before facing a single delivery.

Did you catch this @Taz ?

Yeah I heard it on the radio commentary at the time, and obviously it got discussed - a lot. The umpire's hands are tied in that instance once an appeal is made, the decision by the letter of the law is out, unless the appeal is rescinded by the team, but if it's the fielding team captain is the one that made the appeal, that ain't going to happen.

It's not really in the spirit of the law, which is for those instances where a batsman is lingering, refusing or simply is unable to come out, but the letter of the law is as it is. Matthews was out there and was taking guard etc, and maybe considering it was spin on at the time and there were plenty of overs left to just block out the over and then get it sorted out.
