I agree he initially looked good beside CCV, but wasn't heavily tested defensively in those games, most of his plaudits were his work on the ball rather than defending. He was pretty weak defensively after CCV was injured, aye, he was next to Bernabei and Starfelt but he made individual errors on his own and im not going to blame his shortcomings on his defensive partner, be it CCV or Starfelt.

Regardless, I think it's clear that Starfelt is a stronger defender than Kobayashi and thus makes a much more suitable backup. I think we'd be crazy to sell him unless we sign someone else of similar quality, as well as Nawrocki

Edit: Also, I'm not totally writing off Kobayashi, he could develop into a great player, just not right now based on what he's shown

Kobiyashi has played a grand total of 45 mins with CCV. In a game we were 2 nil up in and totally dominant.
Hard to say he looked good beside him with any real certainty. What we can say is that he folds like a pack of cards as soon he's put under any pressure whatsoever

 

You can say for certainty that he did look good beside him. We quite literally watched it.

 

Kobayashi has looked nowhere near good enough every time he’s featured.

 

He actually looked pretty competent in his first game or two. But as others have said we were more focused on his distribution.

From the Hearts game onwards though it's been blatantly obvious that he's a dud. Too weak, too slow and positionally suspect. Even his passing has looked dodgy. I don't think there's much point in persevering with him unless he dramatically improves in these basic areas. Same with Bernabei.

And Legia Warsaw defender Nawrocki is waiting for the green light to sign a five-year Parkhead deal in a double boost for Brendan Rodgers.

The Pole has already travelled to Glasgow and Celtic hope to unveil the 22-year-old in the next 24 hours.

Nawrocki, meanwhile, will bid to become Carter-Vickers' regular defensive partner when he completes his Celtic move.

Hoops chiefs have thrashed out a fee with Legia and personal terms have also been agreed.

Nawrocki faced Rodgers’ Leicester City side in a Europa League clash and is expected to compete with Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt for a place immediately.

He was spotted at Lennoxtown with Celtic’s new South Korean duo Yang Hyun-jun and Kwon Hyeok-kyu in a social media image on Monday.

There was no formal announcement yesterday but the Parkhead club hope to announce their fifth summer signing imminently.

Haha, I’m not having a dig at you mate but I do think there’s so much revisionism on here at times. Football fans are generally a fickle bunch, but Kobayashi looked extremely promising in his first couple of games. Since then he’s admittedly looked utter guff.

He’s a young guy settling into a foreign country where he barely speaks the language. Personally I think he deserves more time to settle and make a case for himself. That said, I’d also be in favour of him going out to another SPFL club on loan to help him get more experience of the league and hopefully bulk up a bit.

 

Now you mention it, I want a training montage.
