This “higher standard” of player we’re going for will all have multiple options they have to decide between before choosing. Which is typical towards the end of the window with these kinds of players. It might just be a new market we have to get used to.

players we usually go for have limited choices and usually, we’re the only ones with European football so it’s most often an easy choice.

just got to be patient, the current squad can cope domestically. We’ll be sorted come the start of the champions league

Think if anything it'll switch wings with Taylor being the one to tuck in and Johnston bombing on (compared to Lustig/Tierney). Gives us a left footed player in the back three when attacking / in transition as well.

I do think we still need a starting midfielder who can basically walk into the team.

Totally agree on both points. Taylor tucking in or we buy another left back who does bomb on and even Iwata or the destroyer midfielder drops into the back 3 and one or both your wingers comes inside like another attacking midfielder(s).

I am the same it is a big gamble going into the season with the main starters all likely being the same players. In an ideal world I would like two to come in a proper DM/ box to box with presence and a great engine and a creative midfielder to be deputy to Hatate. I would then probably move on Haksabanovic, Turnbull and O’Riley to free up squad space.

However, given the work we really need to do elsewhere I can only see one midfielder being signed and can’t see Haksabanovic going anywhere.

I actually don't think we'll sign any more midfielders, unless O'Riley or Turnbull leave.

    We have:
    Defensive specialists: Iwata, Kwon
    Creative/mobile: McGregor, Hatate, Holm
More static creators: O'Riley, Turnbull, Hakšabanović

That is 8 midfielders, even though Hakšabanović might play on the wing. We're stacked, even if fringe players are not counted.

The only real sell for Turnbull is he's Scottish - depends whether that matters enough in the thinking.

This is also basically weaker than last year - we need one more.

Rodgers comments could mean a few things to be fair. It’s maybe that we aren’t looking at the two players in question and we have other targets the media have no clue about. Or he wasn’t wanting to feed to media any information so played the silly wee boy. Or we are interested and he genuinely doesn’t know of them. Which would be a worry considering that’s the route we went down before with him. So I just can’t imagine that to be the case.

In the strongest position we've ever been financially, season starts in 2 weeks time and we're weaker than last season. Only Celtic. :31:

Are we weaker or stronger than the end of last season.

With all the promise of Rodgers returning, push for Europe, improved budget.. hasn't come to fruition and at the moment, the squad is very weak.

Hopefully at least two or three signings before the first league game and signings that will go straight into the team .

First CL game will be 19th or 20th September which is currently 3 months away, first derby is 3rd September which is after the window closes. The three league games prior to that is well within the current squad’s capabilities. Plus we’ve signed four new players and extended contracts of others. The main, and significant blow, is losing Jota.

From recent seasons, bearing in mind the 2021 summer was a much more urgent rebuild, Kyogo was announced on 16/7/21 with Abada being announced two days prior. Ange made Kyogo his absolute priority.

Mooy and Jenz were announced 19/7/21 with Starfelt being announced two days later. Urgoghide and Liam Shaw were announced early but they were out of contract at Shef Wed and were cheap punts.

Hart was announced on 3/8/21, alonside McCarthy. Juranovic wasn’t announced until 24/8/21. Carter-Vickers, Giakoumakis and Jota weren’t announced until 1/9/21 which turned out to be three of our best signings.

So in terms of first team players signed we’re pretty much on a par with two seasons ago in terms of numbers of signings at the stage of the window, and that window was far more urgent. I think folk need to have a bit of perspective and understand that players, clubs and agents will often keep their options open for as long as possible.

We've sold Jota, it was hardly a 1 man team that won the treble ffs.

At the moment as I said.. it is.

Jota yet to be replaced, lost a senior player in Mooy.. CCV, AJ injured.. Hart is on a downward spiral.

    One competent left back.

In any case, we've yet to strengthen the squad in any substantial way and there's this suggestion we want to make strides in Europe this season..

Nawrocki, plat, Ferreira, tete, plus a goal keeper ?
If we got them in the doors assuming Holms is a hit as well, that would be a fantastic window.

Not to forget the other guys already in the door, nor to play down the potential of them

It's been a slow window do far.
But get the above mentioned in the door and it's suddenly a fantastic window.

Because we sold 1 player? Yet brought in 4? Crazy how people assess teams.

Weaker no, needs to be better quality to compete in Europe, yes ofc.
