This result doesn’t matter but, at the end of the day, we have signed a number of players in the last year or so that are completely sub-standard. It’s time to get rid of these second-raters and fill the squad with quality.

 

We won't be playing highlights again? Why not?

I find it amazing that there are Huns that watch our pre-season friendlies. I could only be bothered to watch the highlights and Celtic are supposed to be my team.

Literally the only games of theirs where I was even interested enough to watch the YouTube highlights was their Europa League QF, SF and final the other year. I can't imagine what they'd have to do to make me interested enough to watch the whole game. Tell a lie, I think I watched most of their UEFA Cup final 2008; but I was in Spain and watched it on Spanish TV as another way to practice my Spanish listening skills.

Why aren't they focussed on their own team at this point?

 

So conceding 6 in pre-season has historically been a good thing for us haha

 

FFS do people forget it's a pre-season friendly half way around the world

 

The new strip doesn't look as bad as I feared.
The Daizen lookalike in the stand made me laugh.

IIRC we had a terrible preseason the year we reached the CL last 16 under Lenny, didn't we?

 

Honestly mate every ‘good’ pre-season results wise we’ve had we’ve no had the best of seasons that I can remember. The ‘gash’ ones we’ve had belters.

No manager is happy to see their team concede 6, no matter the significance of the game.

I think it will work in our favour if we get beat each game pre-season as it will drive home to the board and Brendan that improvements are needed.

Can imagine it being hard convincing Mick to part with reddies for a new CB whilst coming off the back of a treble and pumping teams 5-0 during pre-season

 

Not that we didn’t know, but today highlighted the lack of real depth in the squad.

 

I seriously doubt the club's transfer policy is influenced by pre-season results.

Last two years, full of duds. Won 5/6 trophies with those duds.

 

Yeah, but it's their job to obsess about details. Should the manager be quite relaxed about a friendly loss to a decent team half way through their season when our team is still getting up to full fitness (let alone match sharpness), playing in a heat and humidity we aren't used to after flying half way round the world, still missing our best defender, still not having replaced our best winger, still getting used to Rodgers' way of playing, in a different bleeping timezone and still waiting for our first major signing of the summer?

No. I hope he, Kennedy, Strachan and Kewell are all pouring over the data and analysing the video planning what to work on.

Should we fans be relaxed about it? Dunno, but I am anyway.

 

Pre season is a chance for second team lads and others to get fitness back

Who mentioned two years, Einstein? Read it again.

If you think Yuki, Bernabei, Siegrist, or even Iwata and Haksa, are good enough to help us progress as a team - and moreover, in Europe - you’re absolutely codding yourself. Not to mention the likes of Scales, McCarthy etc. Not up to standard, simple as that.

 

No I’m seeing the game as a fitness exercise.
