    When Rodgers first became manager he said the same things about developing talent, the bottom line here is that we need to spend money, there's no getting away from it, there has to be proper investment.


    Prospects and projects are all well and good, but we have to think about the here and now.

    We know the business model that's in place, but a few big signings is much needed, would be a great morale booster for the players and supporters.

    The one thing that's positive is the way he's speaking about the signings so far suggests there's more immediate quality to come.

    It all came about with this supposed £30m budget Ange apparently had, then just grew arms and legs from there especially with the Jota fee and BR coming back.

    I’m sure we will spend some money but we wouldn’t be buying £10-15m players. Can see a couple at £6m and then another couple at 2/3m. £6m player is still a huge risk with us though. With the 2 Koreans now we must have spent £7m+ so far.

    When DD was selling the gig to Rodgers there must have been assurances given regarding transfers and the amount we would look to be spending.

    He’s basically saying he would like to make a couple of signings that will go right into the first team but after he’s fully assessed the whole squad and weak areas. For now he’s happy with signing promising lads with an eye on the future. That’s what I’ve taken from that anyway i think it will be a week or two into august for any big signings…. :fear:

    I honestly don’t know how to take this, for me it seems like we are not spending on marquee signings.

    Aye we have a model in place but we are in a financial position to push the boat out for 3/4 quality signings and these smoke and mirror’s disclosures concern me.

    I hope I am wrong and reading into this completely wrong but it seems that we are not going to spend big this summer.

    Can only wait till the transfer window closes.

    Yeah I kinda took that from it as well.

    For me if that's not the case then he's already slightly contradicted himself as when interviewed at first all the talk was regarding improving the squad and quality over quantity..which to me suggest immediate first team players who have some European experience.

    Tbh at this stage I'm just waiting to the window shuts:giggle1:

    I think he knows what he needs, but it's a wee message to the current squad too, fresh start etc.. as well as giving the media nothing as we search for players who can come straight in..

    so the players that have come in are for the future, he's still looking to see what he needs and if any areas can be filled by a youth or someone in a £2-3m price range .perhaps there is no sense in trying to extract any meaning from what hes said and hanging on his every word because he's probably talking * anyway ,and just waffling on and on . rodgers and ange like a couple of used car salesmen / politicians will tell you everything you want to hear and be vague enough to be able to deny it

    Aye I'm not quite sure what to make of that. Kinda reminiscent of previous Brendan soundbites that say a lot without really saying anything.

    I think we may see someone like a Tete come in fairly soon but that aside any big transfers, if they do materialise, won't be until the end of the window. Not sure how I feel about signing "projects" when the squad, by the manager's own admission, is already too bloated. I suppose you just have to hope these players coming in can contribute more than the other "projects" or fringe players on the books.

    Gotta be honest... This transfer window feels the exact same as every one in recent times. I'm sure we'll be fine off the back of it, but it just seems like we're still following the exact same model as always and we're being danced along by pretty rhetoric... I've no confidence at this time that the supposed marquee signings will transpire

    Aye, just feels that way..:56:same every year.. .

    Always better to get them in early but if we need to wait a bit to get that extra quality in, then so be it.. it does make it a bit more stressful for us tho lol.

    Especially with the league kicking off in about 3 weeks..
