An outstanding player. One of the best we have ever produced over the last couple of decades.

I have a feeling this and the other deals are not just for securing their long term futures but also part of our wage restructuring to allow us to offer bigger wages to those coming in with big transfer fees.

Thought the same when I saw this.. bumping him up to allow these so called big signing to come in and not dwarf his pay. No matter who we sign he should be the highest paid player at the club

    Absolutely love Calmac.

But am I the only one scratching his head at giving a 30 year old a bumper 5 year contract?

Make his the highest paid by all means, but a 5 year deal?

Says he's valued highly at the club and that he's influential to our success. I think that's the club showing loyalty to a great servant of the club. They likely know he wont play for that long.

I posted about this but I suspect they didn’t increase his pay, at least not to huge levels and not for the length of the contract. Getting a 5 year deal on his current salary or close to it would likely be reward enough. They wouldn’t need to also bump his pay up massively as people are assuming.

Why no? He is an outstanding footballer and a great captain. He isn’t someone who relies on pace, because he has never been the quickest anyway. Appears a very good professional who looks after himself, so I think it’s realistic to think he will still be playing with us at 35. Nothing wrong with showing a bit of loyalty either. Even at 35, he will be extremely useful, even if it’s to help a younger player take over his role.

It's just very unusual to offer a 30 year old a bumper contract for 5 years for quite a few reasons.

Usually you either offer salary or years towards the end of a players' career.

I suspect McGregor had the choice between a 'bigger' salary for a shorter period, or a 'smaller' overall salary for a longer period and he decided on the longer contract.

Both are good news for us and McGregor by the way, and both are well deserved rewards.

I found it very odd with Forrest when we have him a 3 year deal. For a few reasons. A 5 year for McGregor I see no issues though, also for a number of reasons. I’d be amazed if his wages had jumped up a lot, if any.

Yes I agree. 5 years for McGregor makes absolute sense but 5 years and a large wage increase for the full 5 years would be very unusual and probably reckless IMO.

I don’t think there will have been a huge wage increase if I’m honest.

Can’t see why he won’t. He’s been okay injury wise over the years, Broony was in there till his mid 30s and was * with injuries earlier in his career.

Mental to think he’ll be 35 at the end of this contract.

I'd imagine his wage increase would be modest enough, but there'll be a clause that he matches highest in the club if he falls under - like Broonie had before his last contract

Not sure anyone ever questioned him, did they? I'm pretty sure I'd have remembered laughing my * off at them, if they had... He's been a great servant to the club, and continues to be as captain

    FFS, just realised he's 30!
It seems like just a couple of years ago I was watching him at Notts County.
