Daizen Maeda

I think his purple patch is being overplayed. He was clearly brimming with confidence when back from the WC. He wasn't bad before it though.

He's a winger for Celtic though so I can see the need for him to be skinning defenders all day. It's not his game though.

Bet if you asked Greg Taylor his fav playing partner he would say Daizen.

 

I don’t think anybody disagrees with that. Nobody was even suggesting it.

Using a ‘purple patch’ as a reason to suggest a player is good enough to someone that thinks he’s not doesn’t really make sense. Describing it as a purple patch in itself suggests it was out of the ordinary and not how he usually performs.

 

Based on how Rodgers turned Forrest Into a relative superstar, I'm keen to see what he does with Maeda

Surprised by this but it’s maybe a method of keeping our better Japanese players happy. I honestly thought Rodgers would have seen his lack of footballing ability and got rid. I fully expected him and Bernabei to be the 2 most obvious candidates for the exit door.

I completely agree with you buddy. Remember the classy goal he scored against Hibs I think it was when he cut inside and hit a beautiful shot from the edge of the box. I think it may be a confidence issue, and Brendan will bring this out of him I believe.

Daizen has lots to offer us. He’s a valuable team player with his astonishing work rate too. I’m delighted he put pen to paper for another 4 years.

Back on topic, will be interesting to see how he progresses under Rodgers.

If there's one thing Rodgers can do it's take an incumbent player and raise their game.

 

You are saying you dont rate him, yet at one stage of the season he was arguably one of the sharpest and most important players in the team. Even outwith that spell after the WC, he held his place for the majority of the season.

I can understand people saying they would want better quality, but to say they dont rate him is wild. Other players were given their chance and didnt hold down the place. Maeda made more of an impact.

It’s great that he’s signed. Firstly because he works his socks off every single game. Doesn’t always get results and he’s frustrating sometimes, but you can’t fault the effort.

And secondly because it signifies that the end of the Ange era doesn’t necessarily mean the end of our relationship with Japan or Korea. I’d like us to continue to target those markets as there’s real value there.

 

Didn't think Rodgers would take to him but he was pretty clear in what he values from him in his statement having watched him play before.

Personally, as frustrating as he can be in terms of technical ability, I rate him and glad he's extended his deal. Very useful player and he returns decent numbers.

 

So what you're suggesting is people using the phrase "purple patch" are royalists?!
