Completely ill suited to this, spl defences are completely packed and maeda’s dribbling and close control arent great.

He’d be suited to playing against a team who sit very high up and leave space to run into, not 11 men packed in and around the box.

Rodgers played Armstrong right back and McGregor left back so you never know…

Exactly that, would need to be right back though so he’d just be back up for AJ if Ralston goes. His crossing is * poor on the left but it is his weak, from the right he is better.

I do like up front for the same reason, but as well know his finishing isn’t anywhere near good enough to start him up top.

Scored to put Japan 4-0 up against Peru, in striker role, great run through and a good strike, keeper got a hand to it but it was too powerful

The manager could end up seeing him as a backup option up top....rather than out wide..

He's such an enigma man. Wouldn't have him upfront for us unless it was an emergency, but he just seems to suit the way Japan play far more than Kyogo and Ueda.

See as an option now and then he could be useful..

There's quite a few domestically games where he's limited and no much use..

I think he's a good option to have up top against the huns. Think he's played there twice against them, admittedly to various results but Goldson in particular has never looked comfortable with his pace.

Rest of the league...probably sit too deep for him.

That's the issue, it's hard to get in behind when the last man is on the 6 yard box, only on Scotland haha

Aye mate I'm just trying to think how he'll be used..

I think Jota will 100% go back to being the main lext winger and no sure Maeda will be first choice at all..

Absolutely. The manager loves to set up a tight defense and play on the status of an underdog. I do think Kyogo could be a more suitable option when Japan are expected to attack.

But Maeda is a specialized defensive forward. Maybe the best at it in the world right now. It's just...what will Rodgers make of him? Someone like Clarke would love him.

Hot on the heels of the news that Kyogo has signed a new deal with the club, his fellow countryman, Daizen Maeda has also signed a new Celtic contract until June 2027.

The speedy goal-scoring and goal-making winger with burning pace joined from Yokohama F Marinos and took only four minutes to score his first Celtic goal in his first game against Hibernian in January 2022.

To match his speed on the wing, Maeda quickly became a fans’ favourite with his ability to not only find the net himself, but also assist his fellow Celts in front of goal as the silverware rolled in.

On a personal level, that has meant winning two SPFL titles as well as the League Cup and Scottish Cup, and his sparkling form in the Hoops also saw him called up to Japanese squad for the 2022 Wold Cup in Qatar where he scored against Croatia.

The Scottish Cup final win at the end of the season was Maeda’s 81st game for Celtic, delivering 19 goals in those games, and the player said: “It is a very happy moment for me and my family. Since we moved from Japan, everyone at the club and, of course, the supporters have been amazing and we are enjoying our life in Scotland.

“Celtic is a special club so I’m very pleased to extend my stay here. When I signed I said that my ultimate goal was to win the league and we have done so, twice.

‘Becoming a Treble winner last season has been one of the highlights of my career but we must now prepare for next season. Our aim will remain the same, to work hard together with the manager to bring success to the club and our supporters.’

“We have three trophies to defend, and we also have Champions League football, so I am excited to get started.”

Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers added: “Daizen has many qualities that I like in a player - high intensity, attack-minded and his work rate on and off the ball is exceptional.

“He has played a key role in the team since he arrived, helping to secure yet another Treble for the club so I am delighted we have been able to secure a new deal with him.

“Daizen’s attributes make him a really exciting player and I am looking forward to working with him.”
