I don't get why people say this is a career dead end. He's young and can return to Europe, probably in a year if he wants to. His agent is Jorge Mendes who is obviously well connected. Besides, there are a several examples of players who went to China for the money and within a year or two were back playing at the top level in Europe.

Ignoring old guys like Hulk and Oscar who were clearly just going there for one final payday, somebody like Yannick Carrasco went there for a couple seasons and then returned to Atletico Madrid. Marko Arnautović returned to Serie A with Bologna. Axel Witsel came back to Dortmund and then went on to Atletico. Stephan El Shaarawy returned to Roma after China. It's not the career killer some think it is.

 

Kind of hurt he’s not posted a goodbye yet or even reposted the Celtic one.

 

Any sell on fee? If he * off after a year?

 

Judging by alot of the comments from Saudi fans on twitter etc.. they seem like even bigger * than EPL fans.

 

Calling it a dead end is hyperbole; but it's 2 or 3 years of development he's going to miss out on at a critical age*. On average, that's going to flatten his ceiling to a level below what he could potentially reach. Staying at Celtic 2 or 3 more years would have exactly the same effect. I don't dount that he'll end up back in Europe and in a top 5 league too; but his chances of making it to the very top will be, on average, somewhat lower than if he had joined a big 5 league.

* Even with the new signings, the quality of defenders in the league is not anywhere near the EPL, etc this year or probably next year and Nuno was a very mediocre manager by EPL standards.

 

Get him moved to ex-players please..

There’s an element of society in that region that’s extremely arrogant and sees themselves as being superior to all others.

If you’ve ever been to the UAE or Qatar and seen the way that “third country nationals” are treated you’ll understand. And they’re relatively progressive compared to Saudi.

Can’t blame him either he was being paid a reported 600k a week.

 

Can’t see him getting sold back to Europe in 2 years if he’s on that wage. No one in Europe is paying that to him a week, he’ll have to take a 75% pay cut as none of the other elites are buying some from that League. He will see it out and probably go on a free.

Be interesting to see who takes him after being there. Maybe we could unless a middle of the PL club takes him. It hard to see him further his career over there.

 

If he's taken £20m after 2 years he may be willing to take the pay cut.
