Jota's earning around £200 grand a week without tax, and Celtic received a good transfer fee from him. To add to that, there were no rumours of discontent between Jota and Celtic.

Players move on, and in Jota's case I completely understand it, a 3 year deal means he's also certainly returning to Europe in his prime, but in the meantime he gets to play alongside Kante and Benzema, both of which are still really, really good players.

    Good luck to the kid.

Pretty sure this time last year we were all panicking about whether he'd actually signed for us, or not.

Got another year out of him, some great memories of his contributions over the season and a wad of cash.

Aberdeen when he scored the late winner 2 seasons ago was pivotal. Good luck to him.

I like show ponies over cart horses, it was my term of endearment for him.

I thought we’d get at least another season before he moved on to pastures new. Alas, $10 million bananas per year was just too good for him to turn down.

Personally, I think it's finally the beginning of the end of football's financial bubble. Unlike the US and China (2 countries I would still like to see do something like this and which both could pull this off sustainably), it's simply not a big enough country to keep this going without constant injections of oil money. Yesterday, I was thinking they would probably bribe their way into the UEFA competitions, but on reflection, I think they can't make that work. I mean, there's taking the * out of FFP rules and then there's this. :56::56::56::56:

Surely the Copa Libertadores would be too far away to participate in. Pumping oil money into other Asian leagues too could create something sustainable but wouldn't really help them with their sports washing so it's hard to see the motivation for it. They themselves must have their doubts about all this otherwise why buy Newcastle?

I'm not saying that they can't make it the best league in the world in the short term (I don't know if they can but I wouldn't be that surprised), just that it is ludicrously unsustainable and the fall will be as meteoric as the rise IMO.

Hmmm, depends on the pint. Is he buying me a pint of vegan craft beer or are we talking a pint of Super T? If it's the latter, I'm all about the rights of women, migrant workers and the LGBT community, baby.

My thoughts on the deal is that it's good for business but bad for our football.

Another quality player we let go of within a season or two while they're still in the early 20s. If we can't hold on to quality players for their prime years, we will continue to decline relative to other European clubs.

That video is quite scary. Jota has left the Jedi for the Darkside - the Arabian version.

I reckon there’s a good chance he’ll be back in a couple of quick years.
