Some people need to wake up here

Celtic isn’t the be all and end all for players

It’s short term interest when the money calls for overseas players you take it

I do find it strange even with the money someone in their prime going to the Saudi league. I know money talks but seems a strange one

Ange always said while he was here, that players will move on under his vision. Perhaps the board has taken thar on board, if this is the first paying off I'm all for it.

    It's amazing really..

People actually think he's gonna flop over there with the likes of Benzema and Kante in his side. It's an up and coming Saudi league. I don't have any doubts about him performing well and getting a big 5 move off the back of it..

Will always remember him fondly for his hunskelping, and Jinky celebration.

Wish him all the best. It's the model we operate, get quality in, then make a profit after some time, no matter who buys them. Guys like Henrik are a one off. And the guys we bought from down south, who stayed? They seen that the grass is not always greener on the other side, so they appreciated being here.

They're paying Man U, PSG, Real Madrid wages, if that's for a talent what money will they pay for players in the top league. The Saudi league is going to explode, leaving most leagues in their dust. Think about all the Saudi and East Asian TV companies already investing in it. Horrifically this could potentially make the EPL look like scottish football in the space of 10 years.

And in a few years you'll see folk in the UK with these teams shirts on.

Hard to tell if he would play. I believe it was the best decision for all parties involved. David Neres was not a regular starter last season and he is pure class. And Di Maria (arguably MVP of the world cup) will return next season.

We play in a 4-2-3-1 and the moment our options to play behind the striker are as follows:

RW - Di Maria (new signing) / David Neres / Andreas Schjelderup (wonderkid)
OM - Rafa Silva / Gonçalo Guedes
LM - Aursnes / João Mário

We are stacked right now. Jota is more of a winger so he would have to compete with Di Maria and David Neres for 1 spot. We rarely use 2 wingers together, our manager likes to have 1 or even 2 midfielders cutting inside as false wingers. Aursnes and João Mário were regular starters last season (but I am assuming that Di Maria will grab 1 spot for sure).

We have other talented offensive mids / wingers coming through, e.g. Tiago Gouveia, Henrique Pereira, Hugo Félix (younger brother of João Félix). None of them has an higher ceiling than Jota but they are talented and will have trouble finding their spot in the first team.

Benfica will make around ~16M€ with Jota, Jota found his place in senior football and still feels grateful to Benfica and Celtic got a good player and profited on the sale. Best outcome possible IMO.

I'd be surprised if there was a big money move in the other direction anytime soon, more likely he just sees out his contract then comes back to europe.

Cracking player and a really sound guy.

If you had told me Jota would have went to a Saudi team I would have been very surprised.

It's an odd move for a guy of 24, usually it's guys 32+ who tend to move to MLS, Saudi, India, China etc.

But I suppose the way he maybe saw it was that he can earn 30 million quid in 3 years and then he's only 27 and can still get a move somewhere.

The risk is he goes back to somebody like us and never gets his "big move".

    * knows, football has never been more about money than today.

I said it before but I fear the day Callum McGregor retires because there will be no proper diehard guy in the team that totally gets what we're all about and drives us to the highest standard.

    Anyway, good luck Jota!

He’d be nothing without us pure and simple failed loan before us not breaking into the Benfica team. A lot of these players are nothing till coming to Celtic we put them on the map

We’re a step stone for a lot of the players and lots never go on to play for a club as big as ours ever again. Celtic will always be bigger

Gutted to lose him, Brilliant player and great memories. But this is the reason we buy talent like him, it's to sell on and make a profit. No point being bitter or negative. Would loved to have seen him play under BR. All the best to him. Hail Hail Jota.

I was surprised to learn he was only our 2nd ever Portuguese player (after Cadete).

You forget, we don't want our players to do well as other teams may then buy them for large profits that we could use to strengthen the squad overall, and we wouldn't want that!
