JOTA has signed for mega-rich Saudi Arabia club Al-Ittihad in a staggering £200,000-a-week deal.

SunSport can reveal talks have been completed with Celtic over the £25million move.

The Portuguese winger is currently in Dubai where he passed a medical earlier today.

The two clubs are set to confirm the agreement with Jota, 24, signing a three-year contract.

He will join French stars Karim Benzemaand N’Golo Kante in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.

Rodgers wanted to keep the Portuguese star but Celtic couldn’t stand in his way after Al-Ittihad made their move.

Boss Nuno has wanted the former Benfica winger for a year and is on the brink of finally getting his man.

Celtic will bank a massive transfer fee for Jota - 12 months after paying around £6.5m to sign him permanently.

But Benfica will be due a 30 per cent cut of the profit as part of a sell-on fee they negotiated last summer.

Jota, who won five trophies in two years at Celtic, will team up with Al-Ittithad ahead of their pre-season starting on July 10.

Can a player not love the club and also leave to exponentially increase their wages?

Take it you didn't enjoy this season?

Or the season before when he was on loan?

People also acting like Jota has left against the clubs wishes or something :giggle1:

We’d have booked him a couple of back up taxis to the airport just in case

Gotta be honest, seeing Jota leave for Saudi has genuinely surprised me. I don't really buy into players/managers with no Celtic affiliation "getting it" or "loving us", but I am shocked to see him leaving like this.

He goes with my best wishes but it is a little disappointing to see him go for the money. He really seemed intelligent and ambitious with a good head on his shoulders.

I've enjoyed him here but I'm with a few others in that I do feel he is slightly overrated. I felt like he could have kicked on and produced a lot more for us at times. His end product was excellent but I was always left wanting a bit more from him. I think if he was a bit quicker and stronger he'd already be at a top team.

Blue tart at work laughed that Jota was leaving today. I was going to say something back but he's blind...so I'll just switch the sugar for salt tomorrow in the canteen (that was a joke). He also reckons they're going to win the league next year as all our players are leaving and is still not having it that VAR is biased for them. Gonna be an interesting season.

For context, taking wages plus the tax situation into account, in just half of one season over there, Jota will earn probably near double what it'd take him 4 years to earn with us.

I understand that he's already paid very handsomely compared to the average punter, but that is a crazy deal and difficult to turn down. He's getting paid much more than most Premier League footballers.

Don’t begrudge him the Move for the money as ultimately thats why everyone goes to the EPL but just a bit gutted it was only 1 year into his contract.

    Anyhow best of luck

Developing players from B team sides to £25m players within 2 seasons is incredible business. He will be missed but we move on and look forward to finding an able replacement.

What are your thoughts? Does Benfica fans wish the club kept ahold of Jota?

Why is it highly unlikely we get a player as good as Jota? He’s a class act but we’ve had literally dozens of them over the years, many of which far better players that provided far more than he has.

The money is worth more to us than him as a player, for umpteen reasons. The main one being, he clearly wants to take the opportunity up so at that point our sole job as a club is to maximise his value to us. Which it appears is exactly what we are doing.

It’s * when a player leaves and they don’t get to say bye to the crowd.

We've made a lot of players dreams come true over the years, given them a platform to go on and earn higher wages and play in bigger leagues.

C'mon now Celtic, about time you make our dreams come true. Give us a team capable of getting to a European final again.

Be some come down but to go to another team after them, £200k a week after tax, will feel like being robbed if he ends up at Aston Villa or something next. Probably earn more by the end of this month than he did in the 2 year he was at us.

Oh well. I always feel annoyed when people assume that (for example) KT joined Arsenal for the money. At least this time, there's no doubt. He's definitely leaving for the money. :56:
