If it means F all to them, they shouldn't be footballers.

Why should champions league mean much if they are then playing at a series of * grounds some with plastic pitches twice a year?
Anyway the team he'd be joining are Champions and would be playing in the AFC Champions league with a fairly well known Portuguese manager in Nuno plus playing with Kante and Benzema.

We better start spending some serious money on players now and forget about all these project players. Could easily argue Jotas contribution won us the league last season. We need to get our fingers out and I hope to * these funds are added to Brendans budget and wasn't already taken into account

Said the other day I had realised mate. Not so long ago though our transfer budget was decided by if we qualified for the CL. Had players lined up if we successfully negotiated the qualifiers.

Few short years later, now that we've not had qualifiers to worry about, we find that managers and players don't give a * if we've got automatic qualification or not.

If sporting integrity and morality on human rights mean so much to somebody they wouldn’t be involved in professional football, especially at this level.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and rant, yeah it’s disappointing he is going to a football backwater in Saudi purely for money, if he was going to Barcelona or Real Madrid then we would all be delighted for him but he will go for money pure and simple, if you or I were offered that life changing amount of money then what would we do?
Having worked in the Middle East I know what a shower of hypocrites they are but I worked there for 2 years and it was simply for the money.

Long ago accepted players will leave because of money, even if its to a lesser league.

Not many could say no to £10M per year tax free, playing with Benzema & Kante under a good manager with a big support. He can secure his future and his kids with just a few years in Saudi.

Thanks for the memories Jota. Great signing and a great lad. Took the club to his heart and delivered in every way. Will be sad to see him go but the bottom line is it's crucial Rodgers puts his own stamp on this team and 25mil will go very nicely to doing that. Jota will be hard to replace but if the money is spent wisely the squad will overall be in better shape as a result of this piece of business.

They'd be playing against teams that just don't compare to ECL competition. Referees are notoriously corrupt, there's diving and time wasting (Japanese and Koreans complain of this), and Jota has ruled himself out of contention for his national team. I'd also argue that playing in Saudi late summer, autumn and spring is worse than playing in Scottish weather, from a biological standpoint.

Ryan Kent 5 seasons of wages + transfer cost 6.5mill = 140app 28 goals 1 league 1 cup let go for free

    Jota 2 seasons of wages + transfer cost 6.5mill = 62 app 21goals 2 leagues +1 cup + 1 league cup - sold on for +25mill

One of the above business models is sustainable

Quite a few Japanese and Korean footballers beg to differ. Son Heung-min, Takefusa Kubo, Daichi Kamada, and our Reo all rejected moves to Saudi clubs. It is disappointing if Jota doesn't want to make progress as a footballer, instead opting to slowly roast himself to obscurity in exchange for a lot of money. But, it is what it is.

I think Celtic should institute a policy of preferentially signing Japanese and Korean players over other foreign options.

3 people saying “* him” on the last page there.

    How pathetic is that.

Some very immature responses in here if I'm honest.

    "* him"

    "Overrated "

    "We'll upgrade"

If some * was offering you millions a season you'd jump at it. Jota is no different.

I wouldn't say "* him!" myself, but his decision makes no sense, at least. He can gain a lot of money a bit later, but also career progress and recognition, if he stays with us to do damage in Europe. If he goes, he's basically doing a Lewis Morgan- stating he thinks he can't hack it at a high level. I do understand your viewpoint, though. Saudi Arabia is a hellhole full of people that make an average Hun seem progressive.

Would you leave your job for a 10 times higher pay and no tax to pay?

Ruled himself out of the national team by playing in a league that's better than Scotland? How does that work? I suppose Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Neves etc. Have also ruled themselves out of the Portugal sqaud?

It's where he is getting the money from though, it's not just isolated to Jota, if you take the blood money of an oppressive regime to further your own lifestyle while the country paying your wages has a modern day slave industry your entire moral compass is gone.
