Jota is going to a club effectively owned by the Saudi Royal Family.. he's going to experience the most sanitised, westernised form of Saudi life there could be.

In their bid to sportwash and improve the image of Saudi Arabia, do you think one of their star players are going to be treated anything other than his every need or whim fulfilled. :giggle1:

Yep. My brothers missus is Saudi but lives over here..

Think all Saudi's who live abroad get some kind of monthly allowance....I'm sure she said that to me at some point. My brother always used to take the * saying their household had a working slave. Another point with this bit of pointless info is that when Saudi's come over here, they proper let loose with drink, drugs you name it before returning home. Probably no surprise to most..

Anyway she deffo said before that wealthy foreigners over there live a completely hassle free, easy life....as you'd expect..

People genuinely thinking the likes of Jota won't be able to do whatever he wants are well off. If he wants a party, women or whatever....it won't be like cutting about London's Mayfair but he'll still get to live whatever life he wants out there. He won't be plotted up with the doors locked praying to Allah that he returns home safe..

A footballer on 200 bags a week is living life :giggle1:

Saudi royal family numbers 20K people IIRC. Not all are "reform-minded". Al Qaeda had supporters there.

Interesting to read Jamie Vardy has knocked back going to Saudi for family reasons.

Its clear as day he fancies joining back up again with Brendan and Rebekah has her eyes on a gaff in Possil.

Probably knows his grassing liability of a missus would get them stoned to death out there :giggle1:

Hatate refused to go to Saudi Arabia, Jota should also refuse.

Is this confirmed or was it a made up rumour to begin with?

Rumour that his agent squashed as far as I can see, not read anything about an actual approach being made to the club like we're seeing with Jota now.

I've read a post from an English - speaking Japanese who says Hatate's agent stated he is not going to SA. The poster probably read this on a JP site.

Makes sense for him he’ll be playing under a Portuguese coach, alongside Kante and benzema, they’re meant to be signing some Portugal internationals etc. not to mention the money. Once in a lifetime offer

I'll genuinely be gutted if he goes to Saudi Arabia. Honestly if he does, we should fleece them for every penny. If he goes for a penny under £15m, we've been had. Should tell them 20m or * off though, we ought to be in no hurry to sell.

Where are you pulling under 15m from? Every report is saying 20+ as far as I can see.

I had an incomparable quality of life in China compared to here and left for similar reasons to how you feel about SA.
A friend who stayed is currently on about £42k a year (equivalent to about £66k in PPP) and has his own house and a family now. Meanwhile, I'm on the NMW, single and rent a small room. If I had stayed too, then even if (unlike him) I hadn't got a single promotion, I'd still be on £1,800 a month after tax plus free accomodation and utilities (equivalent to £2.8k a month after tax, rent and utilities in PPP!). I don't regret the decision even though the difference between that kind of salary and the NMW in the UK (what I currently earn) is far, far, far more "lifechanging" than the difference between £10k a week and £192k a week will be for Jota; but some things are more important than money to many people.

Which is not to say money is never important. I left Indonesia just before the pandemic started and I regret that precisely because of the money (around £800 a month after tax in today's money but equivalent to about £2.1k a month after tax in PPP). The difference is that I had no good reason to dislike Indonesia, I just did. That was dumb.

I'm currently really struggling to get another EFL job because the pandemic moved so much of it online and China is one of the few places (because they have a law against online classes for kids) where there is still a huge demand for offline teachers and I * hate being poor in this country but I won't be going back to China (I'd go back to Indonesia in a heartbeat!). So it annoys me when people say that it's easy for me to say that because I will "never be offered that kind of money".

Jota is entitled to his own priorities and I wish him luck. Lots of people would make the same choice (I don't dispute that) and lots of others wouldn't.

At the end of the day, I'm one of the ones who wish they could be more like Henrik Larsson rather than more like Dermott Desmond.

He’ll have whatever life he wants in Saudi. He isn’t some migrant worker going over there to live like a slave.

Yes it an oppressive shithole, but you won’t see/feel any of that if you’re going over there in that sort of dough.
