I can’t remember the player(s) involved, but there was a story of Sevco offering someone much, much more than they expected.

This type of move has all the hallmarks, but ramped up tenfold. Honestly they could’ve quartered the rumoured amount they’ve offered him and it would’ve been a very tempting offer to him. At almost £200k per week the only question he’s really gonna ask is ‘where do I sign’.

We shouldn’t be * around with big sell on %’s in this case, make sure we get the biggest possible fee upfront and then we can look at replacing him from there.

He’ll be a huge loss and replacing him won’t be easy. Not just his talent but his personality and the way he took the club to heart.

He's the only well known case, though. And as you said, a back-up. Footballers are hardly intelligent, though. Celtic should protect Jota.

You’re presuming too much here. How do you know where his interests lie?

They’re offering him the chance to go from rich, to filthy rich. I mean he could conceivably spend the next decade there if he really wished and come away with something around £100m, tax free.

It’s not rich guy retiring into the Mediterranean wealth, it’s rich guy in his own private yacht wealth.

He can have his own private yacht but also, a great career. Wait for a season and he'll get the chance to sign for Barcelona or some similar club.

There’s about as much likelihood of him flopping completely as there is of him getting signed by Barcelona next season.

You could argue he could make the move to a mid tier EPL team after another good season, which would be fair enough. He is however miles away from having the pedigree needed to command £200k per week, anywhere else than Saudi. That’s no disrespect to him, because he has bags of ability, but that sort of wage is typically reserved for players at the very, very top of the game.

And even then, they're taxed on it.

He's gonna be earning money that players at Real, Barca etc don't even earn after they're taxed.

Well, he scored against Real Madrid. I think he should back himself and believe in his chances of reaching the top. A transfer to Saudi Arabia is absurd right now.

For a bit of context, I could dump my job right here in Vietnam (about 23k sterling per annum) and get job tomorrow in Dubai, or SA etc on 4, maybe 5 times that.

I've a mate in SA, and another in Dubai. But their built differently. They don't drink, love the whole insta *, go to gym ,and are from South Africa.

But I just can't live like that. Having secret drinking parties in rented rooms in gated communities? Working 15 hour days? Not being able to actually go out on the pull?

    * no. Not for me.

But a footballer would be different.

Nobody can be judgemental about Jota taking that kind of money.

It's just a * state of affairs where SA is gonna be throwing obscene amounts of money at European talent.

Pie in the sky pish, Jota has been fantastic for us but he's not going to a truly elite level club like Barca or anyone similar.

It's a weird one, money is crazy but I still find it strange he'd want to go and live there. He seems to enjoy his lifestyle, Saudi Arabia is not Dubai, it's one of the most repressive countries in the world. Also complete waste of talent.

I think this type of thinking is nonsense to be honest.

I’m not saying he would be justified in downing tools but it’s human nature to become distracted when offers like that floating about. It’s unrealistic to deny it.

Genuinely don't believe with the money involved and the people there they will get any sense of what is going on over there. They will live in complete luxury and a bubble and they will be on the first private jet back to their respective western countries as much as training match schedules allow

I know it’s a bit * we’d be losing arguably our best player and fan favourite.

But it’s not like they’re throwing money at only him. The money we’re getting here would be massive for us. If we have the right recruitment team in place it should make a huge difference.

Overall it's what we'd consider a repressed country, but same as most places do those rules really apply to the rich and elite the same way they do to the average citizens? You know the rich over there will be living in fancy gated communities, getting pished as much as they like and flying in tarts from all over the world to party with. Footballers going over there will probably never experience the 'real' saudi arabia.

Exactly. 2 years, more if he can tolerate it, then up the road, still a young man with his best years in front of him.

Even in a bubble, footballers will be on the streets of a city at least sometimes. With the risks of running into the religious police, suffering from lethal heatwaves...
