They’re signing Seko Fofana from Lens who was probably the best player in Ligue 1 last season after Mbappe for €22m. Brozovic who just captained Inter in the CL Final for a similar fee as well.

There’s nothing fee wise to suggest we can get £40m from them for Jota so far.

Whether or not we've sold players to Saudi Arabia before is immaterial. The fact remains that Tierney has already set the precedent, 4 years ago. Rangers sold Bassey last summer for £20m was it not?

We need to move past this small-time, inferior mentality that just because a player plays in Scotland that they aren't worth seeking the maximum price for.

Before we sold Wanyama to Southampton nobody had ever paid that price before. Then Van Dijk, then Dembele, then Tierney, etc. No one's paid upward of £25m before but that will have to change at some point right? That time should be now. That's how the model will grow.

The market has changed and prices for players are inflated to *. If a mega rich team wants one of our players then we are in the position to demand the best fee possible. £30m is that fee for Jota, the SPFL is irrelevant and the sales of Tierney, Bassey and others in recent times reflect that.

People need to stop getting so attached to players and managers.

This is the market we are in. 2 years max is all we are ever gonna get from majority of decent players. 200% profit is good business. We just need to ensure we spend it correctly.

Are you really serious? The whole reason there are plenty of people in need of help is because of the concentration of wealth. It's the problem not the solution.

Oh, wow. I didn’t realise they had signed him too. Watched Lens a few times last year and he and Openda were the two clear standouts.

Transfer fees are scaled off of transfer fees. Previous transfers are the antithesis of immaterial in that context. The reason fees are * in general is Neymar.

If we get 25 (more than likely with additional clauses) and you are having a pulmonary episode because it’s not 30 surely you can see you’re almost at splitting hairs stage? It’s clearly not the end of the world…

What I wish is that people would stop kidding on that they know what everyone else would choose.

All due respect mate, but this is just idealistic nonsense. Puts me in mind of a guy I know who refuses to watch TV and doesn't let his wee boy watch cartoons due to not wanting his mind to get warped by the evil box in the corner.

Not a fan of uber-rich arrogant * how value wealth over all else, but you need to make judgement calls. If you're offered a slight wage increase with worse conditions I'd say you're unlikely to move. But for a jump that big it really is a no-brainer.

Jota won’t ever play for a team that can achieve either.

Surely if the young man is serious about his football career he wouldn't be looking to go to Saudi Arabia? He comes across as an intelligent guy, surely he will realise that if he does well with us in the CL next year he will have a better choice of leagues to play in. Also if that was to happen the fee would closer to the 25/30m mark.

It's bad enough Jota leaving if true but to lose kyogo and say hatate as well then the league isn't a gimme next season .
The replacements need to do what these players did last season and not a certainty they will do and so * annoying we can't keep our best players for a few seasons.

Agree with you, think some people maybe live in their society hardened bubble and forget some others strive for things other than a bank balance.

On a tangent, good to have you back sir. You provide much needed calm balance to a discussion!

He could also do his cruciate in the first game of the season, never play in the CL and never fully recover.

No one, in the history or future of world football, is knocking back 200k a week of tax free money when they’re on about 12k as it stands.

Aye winning the Champions league would be great but he's not going to get a move to Man City or Madrid is he ? He could suffer a career ending injury at any point. Imagine signing one contract for a few years and being set for life and your kids and grand kids it's a no brainer
