No one is disputing that. What we are concerned about is not receiving an adequate fee that reflects the following:

    1. His importance to us
    2. How long he has left on his current deal
    3. The money Saudi clubs can feasibly pay
    4. The sell-on fee that Benfica have

Then there's the little matter of replacing him with genuine quality, which is no way guaranteed.

In essence, I couldn't give a * where Jota plays his football next season. But we mustn't be short-changed in the process and need to get his replacement spot on. Both of which are valid concerns.

    This 100%.

And with the money, whatever targets were deemed too expensive coming into this window, or the last window, should now be achievable.

The Saudi’s are paying other worldly wages but don’t think any fees they’ve paid have been really that big or shocking.

Neves probably the only really big fee off the top of my head and he was linked with Barca.

The likes of Ziyech, Mendy, Koulibaly, Fofana haven’t been able to claim mental fees so it’s no really a surprised we’re not getting 40m or witever for Jota.

We’re not getting more than 25 million for him despite all of that, there’s a reason there’s only ever been 1 player that has left Scotland for that sort of money. It’s not the norm, it’s as rare as rocking horse *.

There’s not a single precedent of a Saudi club signing a player from Scotland, however, we’re not in the business of being able to turn down those sorts of figures after getting 2 excellent years out of a player.

My wee Ma always says it's disgusting the money in football these days. 'What would you even do with all that money?'

Well Mum, I'd tell you but I don't want to soil your innocent wee soul :giggle1:

Seriously though, with the amount of people in terrible need of help, there would be plenty of use for that kind of money, believe me.

Ziyech, Mendy and Koulibaly weren’t wanted by Chelsea and are all older, hence why they were cheaper. Chelsea also needed to sell for FFP. Fofana is still at Chelsea, no idea why they’d sell him to Saudi either.

Neves they paid a good fee for with 1 year left on his deal. I think they’ve mostly been targeting older, big names on free transfers and are now moving onto the younger players to fill the squads out, so I guess it’s a bit early to tell if we’re being shafted here.

I turned down the chance of more money to work in Holland years ago as well. I can assure you though, if it had been for 10 times my salary, I would have been getting fitted for a pair of clogs that night.

Can people stop kidding on they’d turning this type of money down to stay at Celtic for 10k a week :giggle1:

50m tax free over the length of contract and probably everything he gets over there will be paid for. Sets his family up for generations that will never need to work a day in their life again if they don’t want to.

Every single one of us would be jumping at it.

Firstly, I would counter that by saying that I have turned down a pay rise before and I have left a relatively higher paid job and moved to a lower-paid job before too. And money makes a bigger difference when you don't have as much of it not a smaller difference.

Secondly, I am not claiming any kind of superiority here. I'm merely pointing out that it's simply not true that everyone is primarily motivated by money. It's abundently clear that different people have different primary motivations. All the people I admire and wish I could be like are the ones who achieve everything they can not the ones with daft amounts of money.

Ask yourself this, would you rather be Henrik Larsson or Dermott Desmond? Some people (including me) would say the former and some the latter and noth sides find it really weird anfd hard to fathom the other side's choices but that's life: people are different.

When it comes to work, the biggest motivating factor for almost everyone will be money, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that whatsoever.

Frankly speaking, 500k a year is also multi-generational wealth if by wealth you mean bringing up your children and grandchildren in comfort and safety and providing the opportunity and resources for any children or grandchildren to get themselves an education and a decent job.

If you mean multi-generational wealth as in making sure all your grandkids are born with a silver spoon up their * then, yes, 10 million a year is that and 500k a year isn't; genuinely not sure why you'd want that for them, though!

Finally, imagine winning the CL or the EPL or both instead?
