But that's not the point. I'm on the NMW doing a job I hate and never mind 192k a week I'd definitely go there for £20k a year, stay 2 years and then come home and use the money to pay to do a master's. If I was younger, I'd stay 10 years and then come home and pay for a masters and buy a house.

But that's not what we're talking about. The choice is probably between 10k a week at Celtic and another crack at the CL, 50k a week at a midtable EPL side playing against some of the best players in the world or 192k a week in one of the most dystopian countries on the planet. I think you'd be surprised how many people on this forum wouldn't choose the SA thing from those 3.

It's worth pointing out again that Reo's agent was very quick to shut these rumours down.

I think it’s naive at best to suggest people wouldn’t jump at it. If Hatate gets offered 192k a week he will be off as well. Any Celtic player will be away. Whether that be to Saudi or anywhere else for that matter.

One hundred and ninety two grand, tax free, every week.

    * crazy man. Every player that's ever played for Celtic would take that and be off, do not kid yourselves.

Keep the big bucks coming, not a single player is untouchable other than Calmac.

The amount of panty wetting in this thread is quite disconcerting. The club model couldn’t be any clearer and the previous manager couldn’t be clearer. The only way we are progressing in Europe is to sign players, develop them and sell for a profit. Don’t get too attached, someone will come and take their place. Rinse and repeat up the scale.

He’s a nice guy, he bought into the club, he’s a class act as a footballer but he’s made his mark and will make us millions. Thanks and good luck.

Money aside, I don't know why anyone is shocked teams might come on for a guy like Jota after two seasons of smashing it here, 2/3 seasons is realistically what we'll get out of players of his quality, as much as I'd like to keep him he was always the standout player for a move this summer imo.

Well we think very differently. In my experience, people differ quite a lot in their motivations.
For a great many people, money is meaningless apart from what you want to use it for. People use the words "life changing" quite a lot; but when it comes to this kind of silly money, what exactly would it change?

Whose life achievements would most people on here rather have, mate? Dermott Desmond's or any one of the Lisbon Lions'?

It was Ange of all people that told us not to get attached to the players. I have faith in the scouting, and they will have adequate replacements in mind, or use the money to strengthen other areas of the team.

I'm looking forward to this new era. If anything, a player going to make millions elsewhere, can only attract better players to the club, to maybe follow in his footsteps.

It's easy to say you wouldn't take the opportunity to come across as superior knowing that opportunity will never happen to you.

I agree but I don't like the deal from our point of view.

They're * minted, he's on a long term contract and Benfica are due a hefty slice of anything.

We should be getting way more than Tierney money.

No much changes for us to be honest, players will come to us now with aims to join the Saudi league instead of the EPL, same * book just a different font.

At least we'll get more money from it

Surely with the money these * have, the length of time he has left on his deal and the Benfica cut, even 25m would be on the low side.
Wouldn't even say we are rinsing them by wanting 30-40m, just holding out for what he's worth to us.

Cant really be arsed to reply to this pish in a thread about jota but I promise you I would and have done the same (on a much smaller scale admittedly) in work in real life. Loads of players would too I reckon. Not like he'd be getting paid * all moving to a decent league, which would also improve his game and chances for his national team etc. Its tacky.

If Benfica have anything more than 20% of the profit on the deal I would be seriously amazed!

OK, I'll bite. What specifically could you do with 100k a week that you couldn't do with 10k a week and why is that is more desirable than testing yourself in the CL (or in the EPL if he chooses to move there), i.e. the kind of thing we dreamed about as kids?

On the flip side, we may get offered more decent players from Portugal, with Benfica getting this additional money.
