With the market we operate in its very difficult to instantly replace our best players when they leave.

I get the argument of "well each time we need to up the fee roe their replacement" but that's not sustainable and isn't the model.

We signed Dembele for £500k, VVD for £2.5m, Wanyama for £900k. We are in a market where even if we spent £10m on their replacements we wouldn't be guaranteed * all.

    It's a very difficult market.

Selling Jota and the huge advancements in our recruitment systems that have happened in recent years suddenly don't exist.

Even Gary Neville is greeting about it now. Who is happy to lower his principles to accept oil money and has effectively bought Salford up into the football league.

How does asking that question make me a panic merchant?

Will all the comments flying around about reinvesting the fee in proven quality, all signs point to that not being the case, as we've never done it.

FFS , I blame our new home top , he's saw that after jumping about with the original Bumblebee top

Got to get at least £30m and up to £10-£15m on a top tier replacement, not MJ or Forrest

Thinking more along the lines of replacing him with someone in the £6-8m bracket or at least a loan with an option to buy!

Feel like we all need to get real about Haksabanovic at times. He isnt even a starter yet, let alone in the position to be considered as our left winger.

Not a direct dig at you. Just see his name often and he hasnt done enough yet.

That's hun patter, we have won 5 trebles out of 7, club is being run remarkably well, some signings don't work out, that's football.

Some amount of hun * material being spouted by the usual suspects, we only sell players and never replace them, squad would be in some state if that was true, certainly wouldn't be knocking out trebles over and over.

I would bite your hand off for anything above £25m for Jota. Hes nowhere near the finished article. I wouldn’t be as bothered about him leave as I was with Tierney

Look, don't get me wrong. I think there are more than enough people who think like that to make this work for them. At the moment, all they have is money; but enough signings like Neves and Jota will change that for them and I can see them having a lot more to offer in a couple of years. Where I disagree is in this idea that anyone would think like that. You're only on this earth for a short time (and the football career is even shorter) and a lot of people have different goals: that could be winning things, testing yourself against the best or just simply becoming the best you can be at what you do.

I think we saw that with Reo. His agent's statement was perfectly phrased to shut down speculation about SA while not (I couldn't help noticing) closing off the idea of a move to the EPL. Everything we've ever heard about Reo suggests that his main motivation is that bit in blue (which is not to say that money isn't one motivation, I'm sure it is; just not the primary one).

Having a 30 per cent sell on doesn’t make sense with reports at the time that benfica where raging that a deal agreed for him at time of loan for 6.5 million was too low after he became a success

Jota CANNOT be replaced for anything under 10m euros.

And even then, it will be a younger player behind on the development ladder looking to make development strides.
Most players with his skill set and age are already in the top 5 leagues, earning at least triple what we pay him.

And given Rodgers transfer history, this is a massive * blow to the season ahead.

Harp all you want about Mark Lawell and Nicholsen, and BR getting his first picks... Anyone we replace Jota with will not be his equal . Nowhere near it in fact. Unless we have "another " Jota lined up. Do we?

In fact, when, in the past 30 odd years, have lost a player of genuine quality, and replaced him accordingly?

Football is so * these days every time you feel we're on the cusp of a breakthrough in Europe the team gets dismantled and the manager * off.

They literally have more money than they know what to do with.

They are also desperately seeking a future if the green transition really does happen.
