I know Ange ultimately left but see back before the Spurs stuff and he talked about an uncertain summer, I think this sort of thing is exactly that.

They must be offering him crazy money to go there though at his age and point in his career , if he is set on going we need to getting as much out them as we can as transfer fees are not an issue to these clubs.

Gone are the days when long contracts and guaranteed Champions League football helped us keep our best assets.

I can remember not so long ago, the CL qualifiers determined what calibre of player we targeted.

Now we've got it, it makes * all difference.

If he wants to go there, let him go. It's all about the quality of the reinvestment.

Yep my thinking too. If they going to be splashing ridiculous money about then why not 40 for jota.

Fee being reported is a joke. If it’s true then we will never get any more than that in our history. Inflation everywhere else but we seem to be going backwards. From the VVD/Wanyama to Dembele and KT is seemed like it was rising and not before time. If it’s 25m then that’s pathetic.

Hopefully the fawning over the board stops now, if he is indeed handed over for £20m.

As usual, the knickers are dropped at the first sign of cash. Embarrassing deal, especially when Benfica get their cut.

If true, i hope we will at least be offering him as much as we can with attractive performance based incentives to at least try to convince him to stay another year. Even if its a three year contract with release clauses for bigger teams. He is our talisman and can do it all. A huge character as well.

I still cant see it happening. The fans love him. We gave him the love Benfica didnt.

Don't feel too down, mate. It's reaching parody levels now and IMO that means it's finally reaching the point where it's ready to burst. It just needs a trigger now. A few years ago, I was arguing on here that all bubbles burst without exception; but I admitted that I didn't know if that would be in 2 years or 20. Now, I'm quite confident that the bubble will end before the current decade does.

It’s definitely not the worst sum of money and it’s reassuring to hear from McGowan’s latest article that the money will be reinvested.

We need to accept we aren’t going to get much more than 2 seasons out of a player or manager when they perform and we are successful as a club. All about us having a team behind the scenes to ensure we are prepared to act quickly and continue our dominance.

Only way I see us retaining our best players for longer is us showing we can consistently go to deeper stages of a European competition. But even at that, it’s still going to be tough.

As for the sell on % you are spot on. Players will go to SA for 1/2 seasons make their money and then leave but it won’t be for big money.

Getting done badly if he goes for a fee like that..

Disappointing. Was concerned by the links and even more so now with McGowan reporting it..

He can do a bit too much sometimes and over do it but on his day he's top drawer and usually always our game changer to create something telling most weeks..

We'd find it hard to replace him for the market we'd be shopping in..

I'd say the very opposite. Best to get as big a sell on clause as possible here as he will be on the move again.

He is only going there for one reason... to get more money than sense. He is going to have his family set for generations to come.

But he will have a restrictive existence in the mean time. He'll go to training, then home to a walled compand of air conditioned white washed homes owned by expat oil workers. Then back to training, then home and then travel to game... and repeat.

No hipster vinyl music shops to fill down time.

He'll be like all the rest, earn money as quickly as he can then get out. Probably to some newly promoted prem team for the same fee we get this year.

Bought him for what about £7m, a year ago, £25m probably about right tbh.

What we signed him for is irrelevant.

We got £25m for an injury prone left back about 5 years ago.

£30m minimum should be the demand.
