If the rumours are true and Jotas agreed personal terms with a Saudi team I'd be moving quickly for that Keito Nakamura at Linz as a replacement

 

That’s a cracking shout, he is a very good player and I am sure there was talk in January of PSV being in for him for €5-6m so would be in our price range.

Certainly looks like that. Could do without that to be honest but we wouldn't get as talented a player as that without unearthing a gem somewhere.

 

I see De Gea is on a free. He's only 32. Pity he seems to have terminally declined. Not that he'd be likely to come here but shades of Joe Hart perhaps.

If we do lose Jota, we need replace him with a player who could immediately fill his position and contribution, and not a 'project'.

There are guys out there that can fill that gap, that are still relatively young and won't cost an unrealistic amount of money.

Someone like Václav Cerny. He's playing in a better overall league (Eredivisie) for Twente. He's only 25, played 37 games for them last season - 14 goals and 11 assists. Played twice for the Czech Republic, one start, one sub appearance and scored 2 goals in one the matches.

Jota played 37 games for us domestically last season - 13 goals and 11 assists. Jota is only one year younger than Cerny, so it would be an almost like-for-like replacement.

Cerny is naturally left footed, albeit plays on the right wing most of the time and cuts inside. Obviously we had Maeda playing on the left and Jota shifting to the right for a large period of last season, so depends how Rodgers intends to line us up - but Cerny can play on the left if needed. At probably somewhere around €8 million, a player like this (for example) is a brilliant replacement who can make up for the goals and assists we'd be losing in Jota.

If the money being reported is even remotely accurate, we need to spend around the €8 million mark to really replace someone like Jota, we can't just reply on taking chances on cheaper punts, who aren't proven at all at a higher level.

It's probably wishful thinking with our recruitment, but if we are to really made any sort of progress in European football, as has said to be the major goal, we need to spend the money we make and bring this squad to the next level.

 

I do not know if we will be playing with a CAM this season, but Daichi Kamada is without a club. Milan apparently can't get both Chukwueze and Kamada due to non-EU player limitations, so he's been left in disappointment. He booted out a Saudi offer. Would be both cheap and a box-office signing.

 

I'd say he's looking for wages that would demolish our wage structure though.

 

At least he isn't looking for Saudi level wages. It's high time we used the good finances to meaningful effect.

I think we should move in for him. We need serviceable home-grown players. He can provide cover at LB, LWB, CB and DM.
