At the point that bid came in mate, he wasn’t inconsistent, he’d not been here long enough to show inconsistency (well he had but he’d had the longest level of consistency he’s ever had for about a full season). He had 3 year odd left on a contract, people thought next year we could get more or at least the same for him again.

Probably a big ‘what if’ moment in his career as well, if we accepted it, he could have went there and gained a better mentality in the meantime and became the player his talent and athleticism deserved. He decided he was good enough to get by with minimal effort and application instead. Which he is, he’s on a good wage down there, doing just alright.

That’s nowhere near where he should be though and thats down to him being a complete tadger.

True, but does that have to be this summer? He's on a long contract and with more CL experience and Rodgers' coaching he could conceivably be worth more this time next year. Of course, there's always the fear he might get a serious injury and lose some value; but I'd honestly like to see us take a gamble on that if and only if he wants to stay another year.

If he wants to stay then he's not away if he likes it or not, we can accept a bid but a player still has to agree terms with a new club, it would be 100% up to him, same reason you can't just punt deadwood off the wage bill against their will, players have all the power.

In fact, even if the offer is below what we expect, the players will want to go.

Playing in the EPL for one of the big clubs will be a dream to all of them.

And if we're being honest, as painful as it is, it would be a good selling point for us as well. If we can show potential signings that we can get them big moves to top 6 EPL clubs as opposed to the basement dwellers then it makes us more attractive. This is where teams like Ajax and Benfica are way ahead of us. They're selling direct to the big clubs. We do need to get onto this ladder.
