Believing biological men can't have babies isn't necessarily transphobic. Personally I've no issue if folk feel like they want to change, each to their own, but if you're born male you don't have a womb which is just fact.

Have I missed the post where someone said he isn’t allowed an opinion?

Saying that it’s disappointing, or however someone chooses to expresses that sentiment, isn’t the same as saying he isn’t allowed to have an opinion.

Tbh these metrics can go too far.

He's judging a 18-20 year old footballer there. I'll judge him on the park.

100% respect to what anyone’s choice is but we don’t have to throw out facts to accommodate their feelings. By the sounds of it he didn’t even say any of these things just liked them.

What are the others? The one about men not being able to get pregnant isn’t transphobic in my opinion.

I think he's practically been wasted at CDM for most of last season.

The few Valerenga fans I've seen online have all said the manager played him out of position for most of last season, doubt he'll play CDM here. Think he's had injury problems prior to this season too

The fact it’s 95% retweets on the page, fairly certain it’s not his personal account.

    * trying to find anything for a little outrage.

It has been suggested here that his twitter account should be cleared out/deleted, presumably to remove any public record or evidence of his opinions. Also that he should be sent to diversity training. Presumably this would be with a view to changing his opinions.

Both are kind of tantamount to not being allowed to have said opinion.

    * off Eddie, it's not transphobic for him to hold a different view from you. Maybe spend less time looking for reasons to be upset.

He’s a kid with little to no life skills yet, this is his first real change and these experiences will shape him so let’s see how he copes in Glasgow and what influences we bring on him and how that changes him. Judging him on what he may or may not think is not realistic he needs to be allowed to grow up.

I lived in Castlemilk till I was 22 in the 60’s 70’s and early 80’s the person I am now is most certainly not the person I was then trust me, so let him grow up, I never seen a black or a gay person in real life, only on tv until I left Glasgow and went to London so culture shocks all round for me and them the only saving grace for me was no one understood what I said most of time. So we live we learn and we adjust

    no throwing stones.

I imagine plenty will disagree, but being asked not to broadcast an opinion isn’t the same as not being allowed to have one. I’m sure pretty much everyone will have encountered the concept of ‘keeping your opinion to yourself’.

The club have actively supported Pride/LGBT groups, and a quick google search has an official statement clearly mentioning trans supporters in relation to discrimination. It’s not uncommon for organisations to forbid people acting as their representatives to make statements/show support to political and or social causes outwith whatever the organisation itself is promoting. Oftentimes that leads to people deleting prior evidence of any such support.

I won’t claim to know the club’s policy regarding what players post/share/like, but seeing as the tweets he liked (if it is him, and not a fan account as some have suggested) would mostly likely be deemed offensive by people who are transgender (or more specifically, certain transgender men) and thus falls foul of something the club itself has spoken out against. I can see why some people (and potentially the club itself depending on policy) would expect him to clear out that part of his social media presence, or to refrain from liking similar posts going forward.

To use Bitton as an example, he never referenced the IDF after the initial instance (as far as I’m aware) and even removed said post (again I could be misremembering). Whether that was personal choice or someone having a quiet word with him, he seemingly never again expressed his beliefs whilst at Celtic. Assuming that Bitton still feels the same way (unfortunate as that may be) did anyone deny his right to an opinion or did he (whether at the encouraging of the club or not) wisely choose not to express it publicly?

In regards to diversity training, yes, it is designed in the hope that someone ultimately adopts a more accepting attitude towards groups that face bigotry. However, I’m sure most involved would acknowledge that plenty of people who go through such programs, still hold the same beliefs as they did going. In those instances, the lesson is more about being mindful of how you choose to share your opinion than actively trying to change it.

Regardless of how I feel about his opinions, I imagine it’s not what most people coming in to this thread are hoping to discuss, so I’m probably just going to leave it there.
