CELTIC are set to form a partnership with Austrian second-tier side Admira Wacker.

The nine-times Austrian champions have fallen on hard times recently and were relegated last summer from the Austrian Bundesliga.

And they want to link up with the Hoops and be a feeder club to the Scottish champions.

Admira Wacker's president Christian Tschida stated last week: "Co-operation with a top club that plays in the Champions League is being finalised and an announcement will be made soon."

And reports in Austria have confirmed it's Celtic that the Modling club, just outside Vienna, will link up with.

The deal is expected to include player development and loan deals between the clubs.

The club were originally known as Admira Vienna and achieved their greatest success before the war, although they were last crowned Austrian champions in 1966.

They were in Europe just four years ago, but the club have struggled recently and have decided to partner up with Celtic in a bid to improve their fortunes.

    Excellent news..

Now we can start getting some youngsters who are way above lowland league level some game time abroad at a better standard..

The other thing is if there are young players in Africa or Asia that would struggle to get a work permit they could be signed and loaned there to develop or signed by them with us having a first refusal.

If this comes off it would be good.

That's excellent news - been a long time overdue. Hopefully they make it back into the top tier and we can start getting our younger talents some proper top level experience.

Have we not tried this before? Can vaguely remember we tried it with an Australian club and maybe a Mexican club? Anyone remember anything on that?

These partnerships never seem to come to anything over the years.

A FM wet dream if we do these partnerships right.

Few more clubs partnered up would be excellent.

Are we still officially linked with Santos Laguna in México?
Was always a bit gutted that it never seemed to bring any sort of benefit to either club though. Never heard of any staff or players going between each club or anything. Seemed to be a simple marketing ploy for a moment, then forgotten.

We need to not let that happen here, utilise the benefits of these connections and get some of our young talent over there and likewise use them to scout and help find decent talent from that end of Europe.

    Good stuff.

Pretty sure Salburg have sourced a few players from them over the years.

Another reason to visit Austria too for a wee game when we loan Odin there after he's performed a * salute in front of the Copland Road.

If you do them right the partnership can be great. If it goes a bit sour then in the end we lose nothing really

I've been wanting us to buy a stake in a lower league European team for a while, particularly one in the likes of Belgium or Portugal with easier work permit regulations from places like South America and Africa. No idea if Austria are like that as well, or to what extent our partnership is likely to reach, but it will be interesting to see if anything like that comes from it.
