He definitely got the best out of him when he was manager, sad because if he was in his prime under Ange he would have suited this team to a T.

The rat did get more out of him, however, he got him in his peak physical years.

Guy has been playing here for 13 years and even though he’s still only coming up for 32, his position on the park coupled with his injury record and his style of play aren’t conducive to replicating his best stuff at this stage of his career.

Does he count as fulfilling our home grown quota? Could see him being kept on due to that and the fact ange has publicly mentioned how good a trainer he is even if that’s with no view to playing much

Well club grown, which is even harder to come by. Vata and Summers look like prospects to make the step up but they probably need loans out.

Forgot there was a difference, what actually is the squad requirement for Europe we need to fulfill?

8 home grown (min 4 to be club grown ) (Homegrown, spend 3 years between 15 and 21 in an association, club have spent 3 years between those ages at the club, loans are ok in that time as long as they're in the same association)
    17 Non-Honegrown

Unlimited B list (u21 been at club for 2 continuous years after 15)

You don't actually need to fill up anything, you just have a maximum of 17 non home grown players but that's a small squad. I think you often have to be tactical about how you use those 17, like you need 3 keepers but make sure at least your 3rd choice is HG or CG. 4th/5th choice CB is HG, 3rd choice striker HG. Don't fill those 17 with hangers on basically. Look at the below, Ralston 2nd choice RB, Jamesy 3rd choice RW, Welsh 4th/5th choice CB, Turnbull 4th choice AM, McCarthy 3rd choice DM, Bain 3rd choice keeper.

This season we had as homegrown (club first)
    Calmac
    Ralston
    Jamesy
    Welsh
    Taylor
    Turnbull
    McCarthy
    Bain

I know some people don't have that high an opinion of him but I think he's a proper Celtic hero. Being at the club from aged 9, winning 11 league titles, scoring and assisting over 100 goals.

Yeah did you pick that up from Rodgers interview when he said something about still being in the squad for now or right now (words to those effect).

"Jamesy, a different stage of his career now but important for the squad and if he can stay fit he clearly has a part to play"

    Doesn't sound like he's going

I know it's harsh but I've never rated him, he's been here forever and scored some important goals, but I've always felt he was a very limited one-footed player we could have improved on, had a tendancy to hide when things weren't going his way, and got away with us not signing any real competition for his place for years. I'd be interested to see what his goals/assists to games/minutes are over his career here.

Hitting 100 goals was a big landmark, but he took more than a decade to do it, he's never been massively prolific, of our current wide players Abada and Jota have 28 goals in 2 seasons, Maeda has 19 in 18 months and he can't kick a ball according to some on here.

For the length of time he’s been here (14 seasons) only 5 times has he played more than 40 games in a season due to niggling injuries or big injuries. Yet overall it works out at 33 games a season on average. Recently too most appearances aren’t full 90’s so I would imagine his goals/assists to minutes stats would be pretty good

also if forrest scored at the rate the players you mentioned have this last two seasons, he’d have been off rapid like they will be soon. If forrest had the endurance and hardiness that cals body has to play 60 games a season forrest would be a total legend

Just ran the numbers there (stats from Transfermarkt)

Over his entire career he has a 102 goals 101 assists across 467 games with 30556 minutes so a goal contribution every 150 mins,

Take his 2 best seasons as a comparison 18/19 and 19/20

He had 30 goals and 43 assists in 106 games played, goal contribution every 115 mins. Those are outstanding numbers for a winger in that isolated time period. His overall numbers are great for a winger at contribution of 1 more that every other game. Yes, he's been unfortunate with injuries at times, but he's been a key contributor across his entire career here, can't deny that.

Short memory or just taking the wee man for granted.

Over a 10 year period (minus his 1st and last 2 seasons). 385 games 89 goals and 94 assists. A goal contribution every 2.1 games.

Abada has the same level of goal contributions of 101 games.

Maeda has contribution every 2.5 games over 79 games

Jota is contribution every 1.54 over 83 games.

So outwith Jota who we would probably all agree is an elite level player, Forrest stats are every bit as good if not better than those u mentioned with the major plus being he done it consistently over period of 10 years.

Rodgers also made a comment in his Celtic TV interview. He was mentioning players he had worked with before. Mentioned cal and then said “James Forrest too who is currently still here” to paraphrase. Sounded like he’s off.
