And yet all of our Wingers have played more minutes than he did. The only two that didn't were Haskobanovic and Forrest.

Even then Haskobanovic done just over 1300 minutes and Mikey did just over 1600.

Well no one is claiming that he is going to come in and unseat Jota, Daizen and Abada are they? Certainly not right away if at all. The two you mentioned are the two whose place in the squad he will be challenging for so you have just proved my point. Haksabanovic hasn't nailed down his place in the team and couldn't stay fit, it's nonsense to suggest Mikey shouldn't be given a chance to claim his spot.

Can’t wait until this absolute myth leaves, just so the tiresome debate - which shouldn’t even exist - ceases.

He’s 24. The same age as Johnson and Haksavanovic, a year younger than CCV, and older than Abada, O’Riley, and Turnbull.

He is not making it here.

He won't be on the outgoings list. It would be unbelievably negligent of Rodgers to sell a talented home grown player coming back from a successful loan spell in a very good league (one which Jota couldn't make a mark in) and international duty without first seeing what he has to offer in pre season.

While I think Johnstone does deserve another shot during pre-season, mainly due to fitting the club grown quota, what really is there to lose by doing so. However saying he made a mark in a league Jota couldn't isn't quite telling the whole truth as Jota was playing for Benfica who win leagues and at the worst challenge for trophies in a fairly decent league but was still getting game time for them at a younger age than Johnston did.

So Jota played for a dominant team and still flopped in Liga while Mikey played for a less dominant side and was able to make an impact. Not sure what you are getting at here but the point that Mikey has earned the right to a fair shot to prove himself to Rodgers in pre-season still stands.

I have always rated Johnston. He is really skillful and although his decision making isn't great at times I would like to see him given a chance in pre season before any concrete decision is made.

If he's kept it will be for no reason other than to help meet home grown quota.

I don't mind if he stays or goes but I don't expect him to get more than 1000 minutes at best.

Was it a good loan spell though his stats aren't that impressive. Jota also played for a much better team so it's a pointless comparison would be like saying Barry Mckay is a better player than Haksabanovic or Forrest

You are VASTLY over egging how good he’s been in Portugal, he’s been passable at a provincial club. He’s also 24.

Jota has played for Benfica, played in La Liga and starred for Celtic domestically (against the manks) and in Europe (even scoring in the Bernabau).

They are incomparable in every single aspect of being a footballer.

Jota was around 20 years old when he played over a total of 28 games for Benfica spread over 580 minutes and got 5 goal contributions.

Mikey is 24, played in a total of 31 games spread over 1614 minutes and had 8 goal contributions.

But of course Jota flopped, your clutching at straws to just make up things so you can hold onto this hope that Mikey will finally come good for Celtic.

He won't. He will likely stay only because we do seem like we are struggling a wee bit with senior players that meet the home grown quota. But honestly, him ever achieving anything in a Celtic shirt that equates to the numbers that guys before him have posted are done, he won't ever be that guy for us.

Yes it was a good spell, he nailed down the starting spot towards the end of the season when they entered their most important phase and his form was consistent which helped them earn European football.

It isn't a ludicrous comparison, Jota had 23 app for Benfica and was given plenty of opportunity to make an impression in a dominant team and failed to do so.

A "provincial" club who finished top 6 in the 7th best league in Europe? Drop the arrogance it's embarassing.

I'm not over egging anything he didn't go over their with the goal of turning into prime Figo. He proved he can stay fit, he nailed down his starting position, he contributed to the team winning a European spot and won the respect of his coach. That's more than enough to warrant a chance to show Rodgers what he can do in pre season.

No one is saying he should be walking into our starting xi or even on to our bench.

Strange wording. Surely you would want him to totally prove you wrong and be a standout next season.

Unfankle your panties. As before nothing you have said changes the fact that Mikey nailed down a starting place in. top 6 team in a strong competitive league and therefore has earned his right to show Rodgers what he can do. The decision will be made from there and will be made based on his abilities.

Looking on transfrmarkt he had 1 goal and 4 assists across 25 league apps is not consistent.

Look at the stats @celtic warrior has posted it shows the exact opposite of what you're claiming. Mikey Johnston has had about 10 last chances already at no point last season did I think * I wish we had Mikey Johnston on the bench he would make a difference here. He had a bang average loan spell at a team who have had a good season just because he played doesn't mean he deserves another crack here he has proven numerous times he's not good enough

Edit - Barkas nailed down a starting position at a team in a good league in Europe by all accounts was a stand out and helped his side in to Europe let's get the welcome back banners up

    It’s not going to happen. He’s 24.

It’s tiresome reading about the guy, given he’s never even managed to nail down a place in the team for an extended amount of time.

    Did you watch his matches?

Do you think the Vitoria manager would have trusted Mikey to start week in week out during the last phase of the season when they were chasing European football if he was performing consistently?

Do you think Rodgers will be making his decision by looking at transfrmarkt?

What were Haksabanovic stats for us last season?

He wont get any game time here ahead of Jota, Maeda or Haksa. He has pace and skill but no end product, move him along and find a better younger winger.
