Ok, wasn't my choice, but on positive sides:

    1) for once the club didn't * about, and we're we'll set for close/pre-season.
    2) he was definitely the biggest name on the list touted, and big enough that noone should be bolting because we've downgraded the manager.
    3) we know he can coach and set us out to win comfortably domestically, so no fear we should face another 'Lenny' blip
    4) very real chance we're actually gonna follow through on the idea of pursuing a 'european team in Scotland' approach, with genuine quality recruited for that level - which should comfortably see the domestic stuff in place too

    Here's hoping, anyway :62:

Bet you on May 2016 none of us would have guessed Rodgers would still be our manager in 2023 :fear:

This is a big point. I’m glad Ange left quickly as it gave us the most time possible to get someone in over the summer and that we’ve gotten a quality manager in less than two weeks later is brilliant.

That's the way I see it too, would you rather Ange spent weeks creeping about, then panic into appointing a manager mid preseason or leave on a high at the end of the season, which in essence allowed the club to get a new manager in before the players got back from the summer break?

Don't get me wrong still gutted he's gone but it's modern football 101 these days. He could have left us in a much worse situation, that has to be applauded.

Surely if Desmond was this keen to get him back and promise him certain things with regards to budgets etc surely he won’t make the same mistake twice and have Peter lawell involved in anything to do with Brendan’s dealings.

    Nailed it there.

Every Celtic fan and his dug could see Lawwell made a right * of the McGinn transfer and Rodgers was rightly * off.

Only argument to be made against his re-appointment was his recruitment (the ones he did want and did get) and the jury is still out on that. Hopefully our setup now is well-oiled and the hit rate we seen under Ange continues.

BRENDAN RODGERS will team up with his Celtic squad and backroom staff at their Lennoxtown training base on July 3.

The Treble-holders announced Rodgers' stunning return for a second spell as manager at lunchtime, just as SunSport Online revealed they would on Saturday evening.

And they also confirmed John Kennedy will be his No2 - again our exclusive - with first team coaches Gavin Strachan and Harry Kewell also staying in place alongside stalwart goalkeeping specialist Stevie Woods plus highly rated B-team coaches Stephen McManus and Darren O'Dea.

Rodgers wasted no time in delivering his own mantra 'Let's get to work!' following on from predecessor Ange Postecoglou's popular 'We Never Stop'.

Now we can reveal he will address the players on Monday, July 3.

Back in 2016, after replacing Ronny Deila, the high-standards Northern Irishman famously handed each Celtic player a dossier of his expectations on an individual and collective basis plus how general life would be under his rule.

The Hoops responded in sensational style - two straight Trebles, including the remarkable 2016-17 Invincibles campaign, plus another League Cup and an Old Firm derby record of only one defeat in 12 showdowns

Now Rodgers is inheriting a strong Celtic squad from Postecoglou that cleaned up again and boasts player of the year frontman Kyogo Furuhashiwho delivered 34 goals.

As things stand, the first game of the 50-year-old's second hot-seat spell will be in the Japanese city of Yokohama against Yokohama F Marinos on July 19 followed three days later by Gamba Osaka in Suita before they jet to South Korea for a game against Premier League Wolves in Suwon on July 26.

Celtic's first scheduled home game will be versus La Liga side Athletic Bilbao at Parkhead on August 1 for the James Forrest testimonial.

The 2023-24 cinch Premiership season kicks-off the weekend of August 5-6 and then Celtic will discover their Champions League group stage opponents with the draw on August 31.
