Another point of interest from thailandceltic's post, is the bit about pushing the boat out for certain signings a-la Castagne. Could mean the wage structure being a bit more flexible which would produce interesting results!

Of course they are. They know he's very much the real deal and that's bad for them.

I'm sure with discussions having taken place there would have to be assuarances from both sides, this will be Rodgers Mark 2.

If and when Rodgers gets the job I would seriously urge everyone to temper the rat/snake/weirdo comments. Just get behind the team and get behind Brendan Rodgers.

We need to all pull in the right direction with this. The only way this goes * up is if fans get on his back prematurely. The huns know it too. They’re crossing their 7 fingers that we can’t stomach this return and things turn toxic. They’re * gutted we are pulling this out of the bag.

You don’t have to love the guy. But if you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything at all.

If the shoe was on the other foot we would be scoffing as sell but deep down have the knowledge that it would be exceptionally difficult to displace them.

I hope this is all true! Absolutely the right mentality after being shafted by a manager you were willing to back 100% to back the next 150% and go * for leather to make sure the club can be everything it deserves to be.

    https://www.foxestalk.co.uk/topic/132036-thanks-brendan-you-useless-f/#comments

"His attitude and mannerisms caused a confidence crisis in the squad and a few bad results and the mentality dropped. Then we looked arrogant enough to think we'd play our way out of danger, making mistake after mistake."

"Why? Did they instruct the clown to play sideways and backwards football, alienate players, sell Kasper and cover his * by calling for a refresh.....then continue with his pound shop Pep football tactics?"

"And then BR starts acting like a ****. Slagging off the board and the fans. Knowing that after Covid we can't afford to sack him. Or wanting us to sack him, so he can go and suckle on the teat of the big 6 where he rightly belongs. Massive massive ****.. He wasn't managing us in the end. He was managing his reputation. He's utter filth."

"Cruising 2 nil against Brentford, first game of season and Rodgers forgot he could make subs! This was when I knew he was trying to make a point to the board and sacrificing the team."

"People forget one of the earliest signs of squad complacency when we got knocked out of Europa and Brendan said he’d literally never heard of the Conference and that he’d have to go and look it up. Clearly he just took group qualification in Europa completely for granted and as usual (under him) we bottled it in the final game. He then had the nerve to throw it back at us, saying we had no right to criticise him after his “overachievements” including a European SF…"

"What's most sickening is he's avoided the relegation on his CV despite being chief protagonist, and he's probably going to somehow blag the Spurs job as well. I'll support even Forest against him next season."

"Objectively speaking one of our our most successful managers ever, but long term will prove to be one of our most damaging. The club's hierarchy allowed this to happen. The house had already burned down by the time the arsonist was finally carried away."

"Rodgers never had a Plan B, after 60 minutes Plan A turned into Plan A with a couple of fresh faces. Rodgers clearly lost interest and couldn't escape the sinking hulk fast enough."

"Managers have bad runs of results that is accepted and part of football, but what is unforgivable is for a supposed elite manager to effectively down tools and sabotage our season to protect his reputation and support his own agenda is something I can never forgive or forget. Taylor was just inept, this was calculated and pre-meditated by Rodgers I cannot begin to explain the anger I hold towards him. I just wish the club had acted in September when it was clear as day his time was up."

"Yes we left it too long but the * completely screwed us over and his ineptitude was embarrassing …….from the fist evening he held his Q&A where he basically said he played one way without ever needing a target man, to stating he would try and help us win a trophy (we had won the league you know), alienating players, being stubborn to basically promising us relegation he is probably one of the most overhyped managers I have seen…..master of self PR and * help whoever appoints him next."

"I enjoyed the ‘your football is *’ chant from the Chelsea game. Just sing that to him whilst we batter his next collection of feeble minded ball hoggers."

"If he was an elite manager as people suggested he wouldn’t have behaved in such a spiteful way! I firmly believe that either he isn’t as good as he makes out and his methods and man management skills wound the playing squad up and created cliques or he simply thought I’m going to run this ship aground! It’s unbelievable how we have gone from playing some of the best attacking football two seasons ago to this seasons malaise!"

"He is the ultimate divide and conquer merchant! Whispering in the ears of his favourites and telling people one thing and doing another! Overall His stint has eventually sucked any fun and enjoyment out of being a professional footballer or aspiring to be one - look at the various youth teams! To think he was a youth team coach at Chelsea a s well!"

"Absolutely spot on. I can't say where I've heard it from for obvious reasons but apparently there has been a divided team spirit/dressing room for a while. There has been little gangs created. The Belgian crew, the African crew and madders little gang. Kasper was apparently sold after a bust up with the dwarf pre season over the treatment of certain players. Players have been allowed to get away with murder in training. Was also speaking to someone who has left the club as a scout. Couldn't work under the dwarf or rudkin."

"He poisoned the club and Smith's antidote was sadly too late. We won't be building him a statue. Even Clode was better liked at the end."

There's 5 more pages left of that thread but you get the picture. Had he not been here previously and we read that thread we'd want him nowhere near Celtic.

Yet we're welcoming back this clown with open arms. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

If there's one input I'm happy for Lawwell to have in all this it's to back up his wee laddie so he gets as much control on scouting etc as possible.

That'll be all Peter. 2 sugars for me.

Amazing how people can say stuff like then bad mouth him so badly :)). People can say what they want about Rodgers as a person but he is arguably the best British manager around just now.

Don't think we should disregard the overwhelming opinions of the former fans of our incoming manager. As I just said if this was another manager coming in fresh we'd all be petrified and rightly so.

Aye but let's forget about all of that just because it's Rodgers.

I genuinely don't see this ending well at all. Not because he'd walk out at the first offer, I couldn't give a * about that. It's everything else inbetween - his management style, lackadaisical football, poor transfer record, his toxicity, alienating players and the fanbase etc.

It's a major valid concern but is being ignored because he did well here domestically last time when our main competitors were Aberdeen. There's no guarantee he'll replicate that success. Why can't fans see this? Times have changed. But Brendan is still the same old Brendan with the same character flaws, tactical and transfer deficiencies that slithered out all those years ago.

Celtic are close to sealing a stunning managerial return to the club for Brendan Rodgers. The 50-year-old, who enjoyed a hugely successful period at Celtic between 2016 and 2019, had planned to take an extended break from the game after his sacking by Leicester City in April. Leeds United had also set sights on Rodgers as they seek an immediate return to the Premier League.

However, talks between Rodgers, Celtic’s main shareholder Dermot Desmond and other members of the Scottish champions’ board have progressed positively to the point where a second tenure is all-but sealed. Celtic believe they have their man. Barring a late and unexpected change of heart, Rodgers will replace Ange Postecoglou, who departed Celtic to join Tottenham Hotspur after presiding over a domestic treble.
