He like Usain Bolt, just not quite as fast, and slightly better at football

The translation looks a bit off- I'm not sure what he really meant to say.

Before the record put the headline up it was explained on a Celtic blog that he said after working with Ange he think that he could up his game even more on the international stage or something along these lines.

They predicted it would be lost in translation and one of the rags of would run with the clickbait headline before they did.

Yup, that makes sense. Of course, Maeda is not the manager, so the translated article quoted above isn't exactly faithful to his words. Japanese is very nasty to translate- machines can't do it right.

So Ange has been playing a forward as a winger :) Scored some good goals in that montage. Be interesting to see how Brendan Savalas uses him.

I reckon Rodgers would love Daizen, he is literally a unique talent. Has his shortcomings definitely but what he gives to a team unit is something no other Celtic player has in my time personally as a Celtic fan.

A guy who has managed at the top level will see that instantly, especially if he watched any of the games against the manks last season.

Maybe a lazy comparison but I always think of him similar to Agathe.

If you were describing what you wanted of a player in their respective position, it wouldn't be them, but the positive attributes they do have are off the scale.

Totally different type of player to Agathe. As terrible as Agathe's crossing was at times he had the ability to get to the byline like no other Celtic player I can recollect. Obviously after injuries he became more of a wingback but even on that role his style of play was nothing like Maeda.

My comparison wasn't about position or playing style but individual positive attributes compensating for other weaknesses.

Agathe speed and Maedas work rate/engine.

Fair enough. Yeah in that regard they're similar. I'd still take Agathe over Maeda though. Much more end product and pretty solid in the tackle defensively.

Rodgers never used a workhorse winger or forward when he was around the first time. In fact, he's the most likely of theorized candidates to sell Maeda.

Wouldn't lose sleep if he left.

I get what he brings in terms of work rate etc but I don't know if I'd sacrifice that for a better quality of player in that position.

I don't think he suits a good 80% of the games we play domestically.

Probably misquoted, but if he said he aim for "higher standard" he should focus on who are paying his wages now and shut it. Ofc everyone have ambition to be the best and play with the best, but a player should never speak about that to the media.

Hes defo one we can improve on, his biggest attributes when playing on the wing are his defensive capabilities, id like someone with higher attacking capabilities.

We could always play him as a full back, might actually be the best position for him.

Similar to Agathe being turned into a wing back iirc? Would probably be possible with Maeda, although his crossing is very inconsistent.

I think his best position is striker, albeit a specialised one in certain scenarios. He was a livewire in that position for Japan at the World Cup and caused opponents a lot of problems. He could be deployed in a similar way in the Champions League. And although his finishing can be poor, his movement is decent and he will get goals throughout the season, as he's shown both years here even when played primarily as a winger.

Ange was very wedded to his system which had positive and negative points, but I'm thinking with a new manager coming in, one option could be to play Maeda as the pressing forward and Kyogo a bit deeper as a goal scoring 10. Imagine the problems SPL defences would have tracking both Kyogo and Maeda's runs in the box.

Before world cup I said on here he could be useful as a full back but can't see it happening with a new manager coming in.
