Ange is his own man. He's insanely unique.

I don't think any manager we targeted next would bring all that so it's pretty pointless comparing.

The fearlessness in Europe didn't exactly get us anywhere either. As I posted before Rodgers had more success on paper over 2.5 seasons with what I would class as a lesser group of players. He didn't exactly play a proper horrific, eye bleeding brand of football either against better sides than Ange faced, for the majority.

Out of all the possible appointments, ironically, I think Rodgers is the least likely to go to England. At the end off he day, he has now been at both ends of the table, coming close to a title with Liverpool, and challenging for European football with Leicester whilst winning an FA Cup. He has now also been at the opposite end of the table with Leicester. Realistically, what job would get get offered again down South, even if he does well here?

The other managers in the running have not been managing in the EPL, and let’s not kid ourselves on, if they were to do well here and get offered a job down there, they are taking it as the haven’t experienced it before.

Every manager who could potentially join us would leave for either Tottenham or Leicester if they came in for them.

If you don’t know that by now I don’t know what to tell you. You’re simply setting yourself up for more hurt.

Not my first choice but happy with the appointment overall. He’s obviously had some assurances if he’s joining, so I would expect there to be significant funds to spend this summer. He gives us a better chance of doing something in Europe, imo.

We are never going to have a long-term manager unless we settle for Neil Lennon or someone similar.

The club needs to build infrastructure and a system that allows us to easily replace managers and players every two or so years and repeat the success, akin to Benfica, Ajax, etc. Unfortunately, the reality of modern football is that even clubs like Luton and Sheffield Utd will be able to offer much more in wages and transfer fees than we can purely due to being in the PL.

If Rodgers comes in, the club really need to be prepared for his exit and have some sort of football structure in place like was discussed pre-Ange.

    Precisely.

Reality is in modern football if someone is still here after 5 or 6 seasons I'd be worried as to why :giggle1:.

It's sad but that's the way it is. There's no point keeping a manager just because he's happy to stay. We want success so if that means a 2-3- turnaround for the most part, so be it.

I'll be happy if it happens as well. Will put us in as strong a position as we possibly could be. I understand people being disappointed with how he left, but I reckon he's probably the best we can do at this point in time. If we took a punt on Maresca, Iraola etc, there's more chance of that ending in tears than with Rodgers I think.

My only concern is his awful gun ho approach to recruitment and the next bloke being left to pick up the pieces..anyhoo..If old Brendan Savalas is appointed then whatever.

Still would have preferred someone else though but hey ho.

It's also completely irrelevant. I imagine that his weight and nationality aren't actually what you object to and that there are overweight and/or Australian members on here that you like and respect. If you see something objectionable about his character, why not use that as your slur?
And do you think that calling our former manager "the fat Aussie" might be argued to lack class?

Edit: I'm not implying that you personally lack class, or that your posts in general do. Only this slur.

    Spot on.

This looking for a “long term” appointment just doesn’t make any sense that some fans are looking for. A young manager like Iraola or someone is leaving in 2 seasons too if the PL comes calling. If our manager are getting poached by the PL clubs then we are doing something right.

If Rodgers does come back he better not bring his mate Lee Congerton.

My neighbours parrot has just said it's a done deal, will be an announcement on Friday, as Rodgers needs a few days to rehearse his lines. :50:

Absolutely agreed with the above. What it does mean though is we have to truly accept the landscape of football and for that reason I am finally in favour of a D.O.F. Never wanted a director of football previously, always felt it took something away from an incoming manager but if we are to have success we have to have some form of continuity, perhaps a director of football can insure a continuation in a world where we change our manager every 2-3 years

Totally agree with every word, instead of building on what Ange left us, he is such a narcissus that he will want to do it his way!!!, if we lose the 1st old firm he will say he needs his own players, he will cite the last few old firm games, that the huns were catching us, that he knew he had to rebuild.
I am honestly dreading him coming especially after the success of the last 2 seasons.

Would rather Broony didn't come back and was allowed to develop as a manager elsewhere
